Sport How strict does my diet have to be?

Right now I'm trying to tone up. My question is how strict does my diet have to be. I would say that I eat well about 5 days out of 7 trying to keep fat low and getting medium carbs and high protein. The other two days I eat as I please. Is this ok for my goal to tone up or do I need to eat well at all times?

well, lets get a few particulars first, then we can go from there

Whats your weight, age, and exercise.

Toning up doesn't exist, your either losing fat or gaining muscle. Most often though, in a program you do both. What do you put more value on, gaining muscle or losing fat?
 
I'm 156lbs, 26, I lift weights four times a week and also do cardio three times a week. I'm of slim build but I have some excess bodyfat, so I am trying to lean out and also put on some muscle but I guess for now my aim is to loose the excess bodyfat.
 
When trying to lean out, diet is a HUGE factor...particularly amount of carbs, and types of carbs.
Like spock said, post your typical meals and we'll help you locate any possible problems.
