OK, so my aim is to become an elite footballer. Sure, it's unlikely, but in any case I want to get myself into elite shape. I am currently doing all my homework so I can employ the best training methods possible. As it stands, I am 20, and decently fit. My fastest mile run is about 5 mins ( I have to run 3 6 minute miles as a fitness test and do so very comfortably). I am pretty fast but want to get much faster.
So, to get more to the point, I want to develop my speed/explosiveness, my speed endurance and my upper body strength too. Indeed, there are alot of other aspects I am desperate to improve and herein lies the problem...
So lets assume my diet pre and post-workout are fine and I am getting sufficient sleep every night. Lets also assume I know good workouts for each of my aims.
Now, I guess there must be a little trial and error involved, but would you reckon it is feesible to set up a programme in weekly cycles that involves the following:
2 intense plyometric sessions for the legs to develop speed and power
2 weight sessions that target all major muscle groups with the aim of strengthening legs, arms and getting big up top in the process. Perhaps some sets to increase muscle endurance too
3 days in which I do speedwork and agility drills
Perhaps some low intensity cardio for an hour every day.
2 days with interval training (is this what will increase my speed endurance)
Stretching at least once a day every day, hopefully twice.
Now, I'm not asking for people to make up a programme for me based on that (although you can feel free to do so) but the main thing I want to know is how best to combine each workout. For example, if I do a plyo workout, it is generally advised to limit to 2 per week max, but will I be impairing either of my workouts if I do plyo and speed/agility one day and then interval training and weights the next day?
To reiterate, the absolute, most immediate things I want to improve upon are my speed, my ability to remain fast for 90 minutes (this is called speed endurance right?) and my agility. Increasing my vert and my strength in every muscle possible would be nice but not as necessary for me. I want to also get my body fat down to the bare minimum but I figure this is likely to take care of itself if I am continuously working intensively.
Well, thanks in advance for any input.
