I was wondering.. Noticed that a lot of you come from America.. (love that place!) People tell me that its much cheaper then England.. however i was just wondering if some places are more expensive then others... Like London is mega expensive.. so i imagine New York is too.

Also.. for a cute english girl like me.. ;) where would you suggest i go see when i come visit? (planning on travelling next year..) America is such a huge place i just dont have the funds to visit everywhere!

I would suggest Chicago... Visit Navy Pier and the Sears Tower, and Millenium Park... If you need a tour guide for this city let me know! ;)

Its really hard to say if America is cheaper....you'd have to figure out what english wages are vs american, and figure out the difference in money. Do the english pay with American dollars or do they have their own currency?? NY is unbelievably expesive. Here in Ohio, we pay about $500 (avg) or so for rent.

I live in America and I'd love to visit NY or Hollywood!

England is alot more Expensive then England, My husband is from York England and his family is still there and I dont remember what the exchange rate is per dollar and pounds right now. Also you pay so much more in taxes. I myself have never been there but if you want to visit America I would suggest somewhere hot and sunny like California or Florida as I know you dont get lots of sunshine and hot days there.

Hey Julie

I am from York England lol

We emigrated here in May and yes....England is way more expensive than the US or Canada
there is about 1.7 US dollars to the pound
and i dont know about the US but the wages here are better too!
Houses are a lot cheaper gas is cheaper

One of the reasons we came for a better standard of living -

Maybe i know your hubby?
Maybe i went to school with him?

only 500 for rent? thats cheap compared to where i live in pa. is that for an apartment? i'm pretty sure apts around here are $850 for a 1 br and $1000 for a 2 br.

Wow, thats really suprising! My first apt. (it was 5 yrs ago) was only $250/mth. Our home,2 B/R, is $525/mth.

How Funny Sez, it is a small world you may know him, maybe your family, he has family that mopved to cananda...LOL. If you do know him then sorry but hes kinda a horses ass...LOL.

LOL Julie! LOL

Our rent in Northeren Illinois for a 3 bdrm house is $1200 a month... In southern Illinois you may be able to rent one for $700 a month. I think it's all about the area... I hear Indiana is half of Illinois... And MO is suposed to be cheaper too.. The close you are to big cities I think it's more expensive... All I know is my rent sucks! LOL

Some places are expensive and others are really cheap. Vancouver, BC (that's canada ;)) is really expensive but a wonderful city to visit. High tech and kind of naturalistic at the same time. Alberta and the other prarie provinces are rather inexpensive on the whole, but except for the Rocky mountains, there is nothing to look at but fields and fields of canola and corn. Toronto, ON and Montreal, PQ are also really big and expensive cities, but with a million different things to do.

So it depends on what you're looking for more: excitement and adventure or reasonable cost of living... Oh, and also if you're moving to or visiting the prarie provinces, make sure you bring warm clothes - in the winter its not uncommon to drop below -20C, even -40C in really extreme conditions.

Also, for comparison, standard rent in Edmonton for a 2bdrm apartment is about $700CDN/mo for a middle-of-the-road suite. Scummy ones are about $500/mo, and the swank ones around $1000/mo.

Missouri is really cheap, We live in a 3 Bedroom house its pretty little but its $500.00 a month. We moved from a 5 bedroom that we had a morgage on and it was $468.00 a month but I didnt like the neighborhood so we moved.
