Sport How much do you need to spread out the proteins over the day?

Sport Fitness
I've heard some people say that proteins (or rather amino acids, but anyway) last at least 8 hours in the body. Is this really true? Does it take that long before the body begins using it for other purposes?

If that's really the case, that would make lots of stuff much easier, rather than having to balance it out over each meal. For example eating lots of meat in one meal, then the next not having to get enough protein.

I am not a nutritionalist so I don't know how this stands but I was always under the impression your body can only take on and utilise so much protein in one sitting and its around 20-30g so anything more just ends up being wasted.

And different proteins metabolize at different speeds, dont be afrain to mix it up a little. i try to keep my protein intake going through my diet, eggs, tuna, chicken, turkey, jerky etc. Whey protein is a fast protein and is usually used up within a couple of hours or sooner, where as eggs and meats take alot longer. its better if you eat 5 or so smaller meals throughout the day but thats more to keep you metabolism going to burn more of what you eat.

good question

I am not sure where you heard that but you should eat protein with almost every meal in some form. It's about working out your macro nutrients for your body type and particular goals. I recommend seeing a nutritionist for personalized information

I read something today (can't remember where but it was reputable!) that the body cannot store protein as a nutrient, it needs to be supplimented throughout the day so I guess little and often is the best advice.
