hey all!

i'm a 20 year old female, 5"0, 114 pounds. i am looking to lose a few pounds, but with my unique schedule it's hard to find a good reference point online for calorie consumption.

i am currently living and working on a farm. from 7am - 4pm i am doing physical labour, such as cleaning out horse stalls, moving and dumping wheelbarrows, lifting and throwing hay bails, riding horses, moving horses from inside to outside, and so on. i'm on the move all day, and have no idea how many calories i'm burning.

what i'd like to know is how many calories you think i'm burning a day, and how many calories i should be consuming to lose weight. i currently take in about 1200 - 1600 calories/day, but have recently started keeping a food log.

thanks!

Well, an average figure for someone who is moderately active is around 14-15 calories per pound. At 15 calories per pound, I come up with 1710 calories.

I think, though that you qualify as more than moderately active. :)

If I were you, what I'd do is start off with a food log and see how much you currently eat. Then start reducing that amount by maybe 20%. After a few weeks, if you're not losing weight, then reduce it by another 20%. But be sure and give it a few weeks to show results.

It's possible that given all the work you do, you could lose on 1700 calories. Or you might need to drop that down to 1500 or less. What I wouldn't do is go below 1200 ... especially with the amount of physical labor you do every day.
