I weigh 200lbs and am 5'2. I need to be somewhere between 102-135lbs for my height. I am just starting out and need to know how many calories I should be eating to lose weight. How do you figure that out? Also how many grams of fat should I eat per day? I have never been a calorie counter, but I think its time I start because all this time I have not been counting calories, I have been gaining. I am trying to cut back how much I eat because I eat too much, but I dont know how much to cut back. Does anyone know how to figure this out for me?

Thank you..this helps a lot. I need 1656 calories per day to lose weight. At first I thought this sounded like a lot, but what is a lot is actually what I was eating everyday without knowing. I will try this and then adjust accordingly :)

At the bottom of the sticky that HHackney posted, there are two links to calorie tracking sites. I really recommend that you check them out. I use livestrong.com and I love it. I put in my information and it not only tells me the number of calories to eat, but also how many I have left today, how many grams of fat, protien, sodium, sugar and fiber I should aim for and how close I am on that. It's great! It breaks down the information for you.

Once you know that, and can see where you fall, then you can easily go look at your diet and see where you should make changes. Sometimes food with surprise you. Things that seem like they would be healthy sometimes really aren't.

Yeah I know what you mean! I started using Fitday.com to track my progress, and yeah its suprsing to see how many hidden calories there are that you didnt know about. Its weird because before I started tracking, I made excuses for my weight, "oh it was the medication I took" or "oh its due to my slow metabolism" But once you see how many extra calories you take in per day, you realize there are no more excuses.....simply you ate too much and exercised too little. No big secret, but something happens when you see your caloric-in-take in writing each day.

In order to be aware of these things, it is advisable that you are going to consult those health experts on this. You can have the chance to achieve the right calories that is needed by your body if you are going to ask the help of those health professionals.:iagree:

You can determine the number of calories and fat grams you need to consume each day in order to lose or gain weight, consult your doctor or a registered dietitian.Assuming you're trying to lose weight, try to shoot for 30-35 grams of fat a day.The amount of Fat grams you should intake is based on your daily calorie intake. You should aim for 20-30% of your daily values to come from lipids.
