How long before I start losing inches?

I'm losing weight nicely --- about two pounds a week. Started out at 156.6 and am now at 149.2. I've not really lost any inches, however. About when can I expect to lose inches? Anyone know?

My waist is 32 and I want it to be 29. Of course, my hips and thighs need to have lower numbers too.

thank you in advance.

I think it took me about a month to go down a size, maybe a couple weeks longer.. I was starting at a much higher weight though, so... I don't know, it's probably different for everyone, just hang in there! It'll happen. :)

Thanks. I appreciate the reply. I guess it will come in time. I seem to get heavy at the hips and thighs but also I put on a bit on my waist and that bothers me most. I thought after six or seven pounds I might have lost a half inch or an inch. Guess it's too soon.

You're welcome. :) Again, I was starting at 285, and it took about 15 pounds til I lost a good inch or so. It's not all going to come off at just the waist, so that is usually why (well I would think anyway) it takes a while to notice a decent amount of loss in inches. Important thing is to remember that it WILL happen, and not to give up because you get discouraged.

I didn't loose anything of my waist till about 3 months in, the weight was off but most of it remained on my belly and waist

I started heavier than you at 342 Im 7 weeks in and 46lbs down and have lost hardly any inches(maybe 56"-53" on the waist, but because 53" is still massive its just a drop in the ocean at this point),shoulders are more defined and I can feel a difference, but clothes wise not really any significant change,I keep having this fear I'm going to drop to 230 and look the same.I suppose like you say it will happen but when your still a long way from your goal,it just seems like the waist-love handles or whatever will always be there.

melanieann did you have a point where you suddenly thought yes I can see it now.how many pounds / months in? congrats btw 100 pound loss is incredible

:) I know what you mean. Sometimes I still feel like this, though I have lost a significant amount of weight and inches, I'm still much larger than I would like to be. Probably shortly after I got to the 100 pound mark I finally could look in the mirror, and realize that I do not look like Shamu anymore. lol.. I have only lost about 10 pounds since then back in February (so 110 pounds down now) and it is excruciatingly slow going after knocking all of that weight off. I am still able to see a difference every so often, but certainly not anywhere near the progress I had for the first year. I can COMPLETELY relate to how you are feeling. I would suggest taking full body shots every month or so. Sadly, I did not start doing that til I got to 90lbs down, but I do have a few "before" pictures. Sometimes it can take any little detail to make it click, for me I celebrated my 100 pounds by getting my pictures taken. They turned out great and I was finally able to realize that I am in fact getting smaller. Also having to get my wedding ring re-sized cause it became way too loose.. and trying on shoes that used to be tight a year ago are now too loose. I won't make any promised on WHEN, but the time will come when you will just suddenly realize. I'm going to end my lonnnnnng book here. Hang in there. :) Thanks for the congrats, back atcha!

This is probably different for each person since we all put weight on in different spots. When I changed trainers, I lost 20 inches over my whole body in a 6 week timeframe, but I only lost 2 pounds. Over the next 6 weeks I didn't pay as close attention to diet as I should have and I put on 3 pounds and 8 inches.

I was very glad the trainer took measurements, because I would have explained away the 3 pound weight change as 'water weight' in my mind....but there is nothing to explain away those 8 inches!

and congrats MelanieAnn...awesome results!
