Sport how is subway considered a cheat?

Sport Fitness
how is it not the same thing as making a deli sandwhich at home? besides the bread and the dressings you get.

Im not sure I understand the question. Ive eaten a sub postworkout many times.

I've read many posts regarding "Subway" (the food chain) is considered a cheat meal. That's what I'm wanting to find out is how is a deli sandwhich considered a cheat. Is it their bread? I'm not talking about a meatball sub, but a turkey, or ham sub.

the bread
the cheese
the meat can be full of crap like sodium nitrate

its def not the worse thing out there, and not bad on a bulk.
but I wouldn't rely on it during a cut.

how is this different than the meat you get a grocery store? do they add extra sodium nitrate for flavor?

You have less control of what you're buying. I don't buy deli meat personally, but if you do you, can get leaner meat than what subway uses - I don't know what subway uses for a fact, just a pure (educated) speculation. ;)

Bread isn't..I don't know...low carb. Sorry for the sarcasm. But the point I'm trying to make is that for those "dieters" that are really watching their carb intake, or even cycling carbs, it's impossible to avoid carbs at a sub place like subway. Even then, the carbs aren't great, you could be getting some complex carbs instead.

Toppings too, cheeses, sauces and dressings, a side of chips = no good, a coke = no good...the cycle can keep going...basically.

The drinks and chips are what get you. I would consider a subway turkey sandwich by itself a healthy meal and not a cheat. Just my opinion on that.

I don't buy deli meat either, and I think i eat less than 1 slice of bread per week on average.
i buy lean steak, diet lean ground beef, ground turkey breast, chicken breast, fish, and ground buffalo...not deli meat.

I personally do not believe subway is a "cheat". Based on personal experience with my cutting ive had success while eating subway for lunches 2-3x a week. Being at work all day then having night classes doesnt give me many options for food, so i have been eating subway since day 1 of losing weight. Currently to date ive lost 70lbs since last july. Im not condoning the fatty subs like meatball or teryiaki chicken, i go simple when i do go. Footlong turkeybreast on wheat, with american cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, black olives, and top it off with only their vinegar. Its a good sub, tastes good, and has still allowed me to track the calories/protein/carb/fats in each 6" portion. I went from 240lbs now down to 170lbs all the while eating subway..

There are many better alternatives to Safeway.. I also don't buy deli meat. I usually buy chicken breast, lean beef/steak, turkey breast, tuna, salmon, and occasionally other foods like shrimp, lobster, lean pork.

Also the breads that you can get at the stores are a lot better than at Subway. I usually eat whole wheat, multi-grain, or 10 grain breads, and I find Subway breads offer little nutritional value.

Why not make the food at home and have control over it if you can?

I wouldn't call Subway a cheat, but I do agree that you have less control/ability to know what is in what you're eating. I typically buy organic deli meats that come from free range turkeys or whatever meat I am eating. It typically doesn't have any unnatural preservatives or additives either. I'd just imagine that the biggest difference is in the quality of the bread, meat, ...

Basically what it comes down to is this...

If you are concerned about what is in your food and processes, then don't eat at subway.

If you are trying to get really low in body fat and cut and aren't in the genetically gifted category, then don't eat at subway.

If you have more than 20 pounds to lose and you are looking for an average figure, then eat at subway.

If you aren't worried about optimizing your program to the fullest degree, then eat at subway.

1 slice a week? Wow so what do you eat with your meat? Veggies?

I'm going to set aside the nutrition factor for a second.

I used to eat at Subway all the time, back in the day..when I thought I knew what I was doing just 'cause I was losing weight. Then I got a job there for a month or so. I haven't eaten there since. Prepare your own food. It will save you lots of time and money, and you always know the quality and identity of what's in it.
