How fast?

Is there anyway, other than running a long sides a car, to messure how fast you're running? Like # steps / min?

You mean like physics? How do you think the car does it, I mean, it's not magic. Hop on Google and enter: speed formula

Measure it. Measure from one light poll to the next, or measure your stride and then count those, c'mon man - think - get creative, men have been calculating speed for hundreds of years using nothing but their wits (did I just misspell wits?).

The easiest way - go to your nearest high school's track and run there.

Another way, for farther distances - find a measured bike route and run on that.

Other way to measure the distance... hop in the car and use the odometer to determine the distance that you ran on the roads. Then i think you would divide the distance by the time... or the other way around? not sure. anyways, that should give you the time it takes to go that distance... and you can break that down further by miles if you want.

the formula would be 1 mile:1 hour = 1mph if you are traveling one mile, then if you can do it in 10 minutes {my record is about 7min 30 sec I think} then your are running an AVERAGE not max of 5.625 mph. If I'm doing my math correctly, im going to find the formula I'll post when I find it.

EDIT: Well I looked for it, got some pen and paper, and realized, I am niether strong, nor smart....how annoying. I think that answer is either 10 MPH or 5.625.....But I have no idea anyone know what the formula is, I couldn't find it....

Come on guys. I suck at math.

60 Minutes multiplied by Distance divided by Time equals speed. The formula.

60*D / T = S

60*1(mile) / 7.5(your time) = 8 mph.

Running 1 mile in 7:30 is 8mph.

----------------------
For 1 mile in 10 minutes...

60*1(mile) / 10(time) = 6 mph.

And for the record... I really do suck at math. :)

----------------------
I hopped in the car and used the odometer to figure out my "home-locale" running route. I took off a tenth of a mile since I run in a giant circle so to speak and on the sidewalk (inside of the road).

Track markers are much easier though and won't burn the gas. :)
On a typical high school track, one lap is approximately a quarter mile.

You can also use a football field.

Bring a stop watch. Even the 5 dollar digital watches you find in regular retail stores usually have a built in stop watch. (Yes, I own one)

I got thrown off by calculating the seconds into numbers, aka 30 seconds into a number, in this case .5, what if it was like 7min 28 seconds... I wouldn't know how to do that, of course I suck at math even more so than you it would seem.... oh well not that I'm complaining.
