How essential is professional nutrional guidance?

i started serious work out last march 2008. I managed to lose about 35lbs in 5 months. From august to end of the year i tried to keep it off and i did. Then from Jan 2009 i enrolled myself in personal training once a week at my GYM. Since then i have lost a 30 more lbs.

I weight 190lbs and i am 5 ft 5 in. So i am still obese as per the BMI number.

I still have 45 more pounds to get a BMI 24.1, which is my goal. I eat pretty clean and i am diciplined. I have attached my food sheet in this forum.

My trainer has offered me a dietary counselling option in which he would determine how balanced my meals should be. he would give me the suggested portions of Protein, starch, fiber and fat. This decision would be made by analysing my food journal recorded for a week. He said he would also tweak/ provide new cardio ideas to keep me in best fat losing mode.

This plan comes with a cost outside of my training plan. My training plan ends in June. I am contemplating whether to opt for this nutrinal plan. I may be leaving this country by end of year or sooner and i might not get these opputunity back home. So i am thinking i should not regret later to have missed this.

Please share your suggestions with me on this.

I don't think it's at all necessary.

You appear to be taking a very analytical approach with the planning thing.

If it is working for you and it feels right for you?? Go for it.

To be honest, spend the time to understand how food gets metabolized, what calories/carbs/fats do to you and how to deal with them. Most everything can be "googled."

If you arm yourself with knowledge, you won't need a nutritionist to think for you.

I applaud you for asking the question. Keep pushing!

Rabolt1,

I have made modifications to my diet based on knowledge i have gained across resources ( books/Internet). I don't really see any more ideas on had to change my existing pattern. Moreover, i am pretty knowledgeable in weights and cardio that i do. But i have not taken a professional guidance on food. I feel i should not miss it when i am on the run for losing all i can.

Aaron,

Thanks Man. I too feel the same. I am just getting inputs from as many people possible.

The key to having proper nutrition is to not eat like a pig and to eat a variety of foods. You don't need a licensed professional to offer you that kind of common sense.
