How do you put the dumbbells down? (Chest press...)

So I've replaced my bench press with dumbbell chest presses.
Geting into position and doing the exercise is simple eneough, though I still don't understand how you're supposed to put the dumbbells down.
I've heard people talk about "using the momentum" to sit up, though whenever I sit up it's fast and out of control, and I fell like I'm going to bang the dumbbells together, or twist my wrist.
Any tips on how to sit up correctly?

I found I can only sit up with the dumbells up to around 50-60 pounds by pulling my kness up against my chest and kipping with a leg kick. Above that I have to just drop them (in a controlled manner, but drop none the less). Hopefully your workout area has some good flooring.

i kick them up with my knees, and do the same thing to put them back down.

granted i'm only doing 65lb dumbbells.

i believe this is slightly similar to the other two responses, but i lift my knees up and place the dumbbells on my knees and then rock my back off the bench. i can then put the the dumbbells down to each side while im sitting up.

I experimented a bit, and I found I can set the dumbbells on either side of my abdomen and sit up fairly normally, I suppose the key in any case is to put the weight lower on your center of gravity.
