How do signatures work?

I saw someone had a link to their diary, and someone else had their whole signature centered. I would like both of those features as well haha, but it doesn't look like my attempt is working

Edit: I thought putting the bbcode into this code tag would make it...not do that. I clearly don't know what's going on lol but this is my goal at least ^
