OK, one of my problems with buying fruit is it seems to rot too quickly before I can eat all of it..

I can only really go grocery shopping once every 2 weeks (because that is when I get paid) and even then, I still have a very limited budget to buy food with...

Just curious if anyone has any advice or tips to keep my fruits (and veggies) lasting longer? especially in my situation?

I sometimes buy fruit/veg from the local wholesalers because it can be a lot cheaper if you buy a box at a time. I find that things tend to keep better if I put them in the cupboard under the stairs which is a dark cupboard. Things dont seem to go off nearly as quickly. If I can get some things into the fridge I do that too - but often there is just not the space to do that.

I am sure that some other people may have a better answer. That is just what has worked best of the things that I have tried...

Do you have to buy it all at the same time. I know you said you get paid every 2 weeks, but that doesn't mean you have to spend your whole food budget that day, right? Why not set aside some money so that you can go at the end of the week and buy more fresh veg and fruit.

I also get paid every 2 weeks, and I set aside my grocery money. I spent about 2/3 of it on payday, and then I use the rest to buy veg at the farmers market every saturday, yogurt, etc.

For me - the economic sense of going to the wholesalers is inescapable (if visiting Newcastle where I know where to go for one that will deal with the public). I can buy a 10Kg box of kiwi fruit for the same price as 6 of them in a punnet from the major supermarkets - with greengrocers charging more and market stalls charging much the same as the supermarket. Even with wastage - the savings are enormous on my fruit bill.

If all else is equal I go for buying things freshly and regularly.
