Sport How can I sneak in more protein and veggies?

Sport Fitness
I am a carb addict! I'm just a little overweight and want to learn how to eat more balanced. I eat every 3 hours, but it's not balanced. This is a good example of a daily eating log:

Breakfast: Large bowl of low sugar cereal w/ skim milk
Snack: large apple, granola bar
Lunch: Baked Lays chips, two turkey hotdogs on wheat buns, diet pop
Snack: candy bar, fruit
Dinner: Wheat pancakes & scrambled eggs (one yolk) w/ sugar free syrup
Snack: Large bowl of low sugar cereal w/ skim milk

On my big grocery day, I'll buy lettuce and fresh veggies, but they usually go to waste because they never sound good later on in the week.

I know I need to eat more protein and veggies, but I don't know how to do it and enjoy it. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Nora

Hi, Nora.

I added some suggestions in parenthesis.

Breakfast: Large bowl of low sugar cereal w/ skim milk (add some egg whites)

Snack: large apple, granola bar (nix the granola bar. Add cottage cheese)

Lunch: Baked Lays chips, two turkey hotdogs on wheat buns, diet pop (Nix the Baked Lays and add a salad)

Snack: candy bar, fruit (You know what I am going to say :D Nix the candy bar and add a protein bar. You could nix the fruit too. If you do, then eat cheese with wheat crackers as the snack)

Dinner: Wheat pancakes & scrambled eggs (one yolk) w/ sugar free syrup (Toughie. This should be a protein based meal. What about a bean tortilla? What about scrambled eggs with tofu? What about chicken, a baked potato and veggies?)

Snack: Large bowl of low sugar cereal w/ skim milk (Nix this. This is most likely a high carb cereal. So switch to a lower carb cereal like Kashi Go Lean or change the meal completely. Cottage cheese is a great meal to have before bed. What about a cottage cheese with berries and honey drizzled on top?)

Your menu was my menu a few years ago. It will help A LOT if you can get more protein in there. It looks like you may be big on convenience as well. So am I. I eat a lot of rice/bean mixes because I heat them up and they're good to go. Hope that gave you some ideas.
