How can I lose weight?

Hello I need help losing weight..I've lost 55+lbs but I'm stuck now and I'm 17, 5'9" 165lbs. The thing that is annoying to me is I eat amazingly healthy yet I'm not losing more weight.

-I DO NOT eat dairy, grains, legumes, refined sugars, unhealthy oils, processed foods. I am a pure natural healthy eater and I never cheat. I follow the "paleo diet" if saying that gives you a better understanding.

-My nutrition intake is very high fat and high protein, all healthy fats though mostly coming from almonds and nuts

-My exercise is very minimal. I rarely exercised but I am now walking 30mins everyday and doing daily stretching recently.

I know I'm not obese but I am certainly not starving. If anyone has any advice on what I could change PLEASE SHARE! I'm looking for lifestyle changes not temporary diets (temporary plateau break diet is a bit different though). I don't have access to heavy gym equipment/pool, otherwise I'm all up for suggestions.

1) Lean up the diet some by consistently cutting sugars and simple carbs from the diet , keep the protein in grams near your target weight -- and check those Fats -- that diet you reference has some people going way to heavy on fats- I would say no more than 50 grams at your size.

2) Some resistance training 3X per week

3) Some cardio also 3X per week- At least 30 min inside your THR zone

THAT will do it 99% of the time
Most else you here are gimmicks and scams meant to make money from people looking for some magic pill or miracle that will give them "easy and effortless" results.
Nonsense -- those false promises are the Snake Oils of this century

Thank you for the responses

Yeah I have actually been eating a lot of fat. All healthy fats but oh man a LOT. I've started walking daily for 30mins, getting my heart in the THR zone is something I can't do reliably consistently (it's complicated). I've started resistance training 5/7, trying to swap some of these days with cardio if I can. Only been a week and I've lost 3lbs, I feel this may work, im certainly feeling the burn.

since you are capable of sticking to the paleo diet (avoiding most junk foods), I would say you already posess the level of control over your diet most people only dream of...you should have no problems replacing at least some of the calorie-dense foods (nuts, seeds) with some low-calorie counterparts (fruits, vegetables)

no matter how healthy, at the end of the day calories are still calories, and you need to bring them down (preferably without eating less food) or compensate with exercise

You don't mention vegetable consumption -- are you eating plenty of veggies? Why not eat legumes -- they are a very healthy food product.

I agree that it's likely all you required to get off the plateau is what Mike Spitzer offered -- the addition of strength training, specifically.

However, be careful about following any type of "diet". Be absolutely sure that your eating provides all the necessary nutrients to sustain optimal health. Most diets do not present balanced eating.

Most of the above posts are correct.
Find something that works, stick to it, have a GREAT positive mindset and work your tail off!
You got this!

Hi UnstopableHeart

I'm new to this forum and was compelled to join having just read your post. I'm a former Judo and Rugby competitor in the UK, and from time to time I do carry out Personal Training sessions in my spare time.

First of all, it's great that you've lost so much weight so far, and congratulations!

It sounds as though your body has become acclimatized to your current routine and this could be the reason behind your reduced progression rate. This just means you need to make a tweak in your routine so that your body is shocked into re-starting its progress.

Off the top of my head - in the past, the following tips have delivered success to my clients who have been in a similar situation as yourself:

1 - mug of hot water with with squeezed lemon in the mornings (gets the system switched on)

2 - during your walks - carry out a random spurt of fast walking and have this last for as long as you can - so step it up but only for as long as is comfortable for you. Increasing intensity randomly will give you surprising results.

3 - spend a day eating nothing but high fibre vegetables and fruit (carrots, grapefruit, beans) along with atleast 1.5 litres of water. Do this for a couple days in a row, and you'll be surprised at what you achieve.

I hope this bit of advice has helped you in some way

Cheers

:)
