Hi,

I'm a little worried that I am lacking protien or other important things from what I eat. I am a vegetarian, but I don't eat any meat substitutes like quorn or anything. I mainly just eat fruit (apple, grapes, bananas, tomatoes and oranges) and raw carrots and then I have either some pasta or noddles as a meal in the evening. But I'm worried all I'm getting is carbs and nothing else. That said I've lost 10lbs in the past few weeks but I don't want to risk anything.

Thanks alot for your help.

How are you keeping track of what you're eating?

If you're not - then start by using a program like or one of the 1000s of free sites on the web...

Then reevaluate.

How long have you been vegetarian?

Thanks for your suggestion. I haven't been keeping track of what I am eating. But I will now. I've been a vegetarian for 10 years, since I was 11. lol I don't really eat dairy either as I'm trying to fully convert to being a vegan. I'm slowly cutting things out and hopefully, by the new year I will be a proper vegan. :D

When you were a child doing how -how did your parents ensure you were getting adequate protein?

There's at least one thread on this forum on being a vegetarian that has some good resources in it... what have you researched? What sources of protein are you currently getting?

Beans are good for protein. Soy stuffs good with protein. Nuts are good. Im sure a quick google search would bring up a wealth of information.

Im surprised you lasted 10 years as a vegetarian not knowing where to get fats and protein from. Are the whites of your eyes a nice brownish-yellow?

My eyes are white lol. Since I last posted I've actually become vegan. I've been doing some reading up on where to get protien, B12 and that from. I'm not fully in the know but I think I'm getting a better idea. I'm just sticking to eating cearal with rice milk for breakfast, fuit for lunch and pasta for tea. Just until I know properly where to get vegan food from. I do eat cashsew nuts and sunflower seeds fairly often, although not everyday.

As for the question about what my parents did to make sure I got the right nutrition, I'm not sure. I still ate the same food as them just without what ever meat/fish they were eating (so basically I had mash and carrots everyday, with tomato ketchup for good measure lol).

Thanks for your replies

If you are vegan, you really have to be mindfull of the protein.

Being vegan is a great noble pursuit and I commend you for it. The same dedication to stick to it should be applied to your diet to make sure you are healthy.
