Sport Home made protein bar

Sport Fitness
hey everyone im using this recipe that i found on a bodybuilding forum...its a protein bar for cutting that you make at home...heres the recipe:

Combine in Large Mixing Bowl

8 Scoops Whey (Vanilla is very good)
3 Cups Oats
1 Package Sugar Free Fat Free Pudding (Any flavor is good)
2 Cups Skim Milk

Mix until a sticky batter is formed (may take a few minutes)

use a large spoon to spread out the mix into the bottom of a Pam-sprayed glass or metal cooking tray (spread until even)
put in the fridge overnight and cut into 8 equal bars that yield:
3g fat
28g carbs
29g protein
257 calories
These bars taste amazing, and are perfect for: breakfast, pre OR postworkout.

i was wondering if anyone has ever tried these before and how they worked? if not ill be sure to tell you what i thought of them :)

Looks good, I saw this recipe in the sticky a bit back, haven't tried making them yet but will give it a go soon. Only thing I'm not too sure about is how much pudding should be used, package sizes can vary. If someone has made these before, please recommend a type of pudding that could be used in these. Thanks

Just made a chocolate version of these using the less milk recipe. Look and taste great (although they haven't sat in the fridge yet). I used instant pudding, not sure if that's what I was supposed to use. One thing is that I wish someone made sugar free pudding using splenda or something. I don't like aspartame.

yeah i tried these also, not bad, i actually liked letting them sit for a day or two first so the oats arent as tough. >.<

Actually I strongly suggest just using regular pudding with no fat. Screw the sugar-free kind. Yesterday after having just one serving I went riding on my horse and got the worst headache ever. I could also tell I was getting irritable. The terrible headache lasted all day! It was from that terrible aspartame (maybe sugar alcohol too if that pudding as any of that) in those protein bars. I never get headaches. Now I definately know my body can't handle aspartame or any artificial sweeters other than splenda (at least I don't know of any issues with splenda as of right now). I had to throw the rest of the bars out wasting all those oats and whey :(

Would they be suitable for bulking as well, or only cutting? Would they be a good option for a meal on the go? (one of your 5 or 6 small meals)?

Thanks!

I'm guessing it's not that great for bulking, doesn't have enough calories to put you over since it's only about 250. I guess you could always eat 2 in bulking phase but I'd instead just add some more ingredients into the mix like nuts, raisins, etc.

you can do things to add more cals, or just eat two. i made some tonight and they're pretty good. actually, i'm really happy with how they turned out because i didn't really like this type of whey (cookies and cream) but i mixed it with butterscotch jello and it just turned out so good

Cookies and cream with butterscotch? That's quite a mix ;)

I just made a batch with REGULAR pudding this time (chocolate pudding with chocolate whey). I agree that they taste good. I think next time I'm going to make them with cheesecake pudding and aria vanilla protein. There are a couple words on those boxes of the pudding dry mix that I'm not familiar with. I hope they are nothing bad

The chocolate ones I made has a bit of bitter taste to it, it's been 2 days too and it's still not hardening up. Only used a cup of skim milk too, what's the deal?

what are they?

modified food starch, cocoa processed with alkali, disodium phosphate, tetrasodium pyrophosphate, mono-and diglycerides, BHA

It also has those red 40, yellow 5, blue 1 which I'm not sure how bad those really are for you although I've heard you are supposed to avoid the red dyes. The BHA is a preservative and isn't the glycerides fats? Not sure if the disodium is or tetrasodium is anything to worried about...

One more question about that, what kind of oats did you use? Were they quick cooking? Cause the oats I used the first time are supposedly quick cooking but they take a lot longer to cook as oatmeal than other quick cooking oats. The bars I made from those did harden in a couple days with proper flipping. I just make a batch with irish quick cooking oats, which get soft really fast as oatmeal, and it seems like a less thick batter than my previous batch. We'll see if these harden...
