Home gym

Has anyone got a home gym? I was thinking about buying a few bits, but would really like some advice from an outside party because the sales people will want to make a sale! I was looking at buying these:

Vibration Plate

Cross Trainer

Treadmill

Hi Lilla,

I have a rowing machine (Concept2 Series D) and a Total Gym (replica of one, anyway). I just got a cheapie rubberband weight set for targeting stuff too, since the Total Gym is better for "big" lifting (presses, squats, etc), but not so much for targeting the little guys like rotator cuffs and high-rep lifting.

They both breakdown nicely to take up not too much room, and I can get the rower ready (or not) in under 30 seconds, the TG take a little longer, but not by much.

Good luck!

Avibration plates are good but the ones made for home use are not, as they are not build to high enough standards compared to the commercial ones so the frequency and amplitude are badly effected the heavier you are hugely reducing the benefits.

cross trainer is good but takes up a lot of space and don't always fit the users limb length comfortably

treadmill = good value if you like running

free weights or bands are almost essential

We have a Lifestyler stair step exercise machine and a Total Gym. We got them both at garage sales, for less than $100 each. That is the approach I recommend: go to garage sales and get whatever you can find for cheap.

That said, I do like them both. Obviously, the stair stepper is for cardio and the Total Gym is for strength.

The Total Gym can be folded up for storage really small. The resistance is adjustable so that you either pull 100% of your weight or 75% or 50% or 25%. When I first started, I weighed 240 and was pulling 25%. Now, I weigh 148 and am pulling 75%.

I used both diet and exercise to lose the weight, and still am, to keep the weight off. I have kept it off since March.

I love having a treadmill at home. In the winter it's so worth it when it's so freezing outside.
