Hit a plateau!

Hi! I'm new to the forum and I am looking for any tips or advice. I have lost about 55lbs since Christmas and over the past 8 weeks or so, I have hit a horrible plateau. I have tried changing my workout routine, changing my diet, exercising more, exercising less, etc. I am running out of options! If anyone has any tips or has been through this before, any advice would be greatly appreciated! I have even resorted to diet pills, to help kick start things again. I feel like I am spinning my wheels. I did so well for about 6 months and now this is a huge motivation killer. Especially since I want to try my first 5k next month.

Thanks in advance!

It might sound like a silly question - but how have you been changing things?

When you say you have changed your diet - how have you changed it?

Sometimes you can get things moving by changing a repetitive food plan... I once had a plateau that I solved by changing a meal to cereal and another that I solved by cutting out cereal.

Are you literally weighing everything that you eat on scales...
It may be worth checking out the video in the first posting in this thread...

There is no denying that it becomes more important to be accurate with our calorie counting as we get smaller... Our allowance gets smaller and if we are eating an extra 100 calories due to error - it is a bigger percent disrepancy...

If you are not doing it already - it can be worth doing a full nutritional analysis of your food and seeing how your food plan stacks up against all the RDAs for all sorts of things... In my big project - the realisation that my sodium had crept up (by having home made soup which used stock cubes that were high sodium) got me to goal in five weeks at the end of a two year project where I had got stuck on the last 12 pounds...

After 55 pounds - your calorie requirements for weight loss will be less than they were at the start... Have you moved your calorie level down... How many calories are you currently shooting for?

When you say you have changed your exercise routine - how did you change that too?

Have you for instance tried HIIT?

Good questions omega.

I was in a similar situation for a whole month. I ended up switching my workout schedule from nighttime to early mornings and added HIIT to replace 1-2 workouts.

Don't worry about hitting plateaus. This only means that you got the MOST out of your workout. That means you have the determination and discipline to keep moving forward.
