Hiit????

I've read alot of threads and i was wondering why HIIT is so good at burning fat and retaining muscle?

dont you have to be on a calorie deficit to burn fat? so doesnt that mean that if your not there will be no fat burnt?

Also when there is a calorie deficit isnt muscle and fat burnt at the same rate for energy?

Thanks for your help

I believe that your body burns glucose faster, so it takes shorter time to dip into your fat resources.

Your body doesn't always use glucose--at lower heart rates and periods after that initial time, it burns fat. Fat is a better energy source for the body, anyway. You don't have to be at a calorie deficit for this to happen.

HIIT burns more stored calories since the intensity is higher (hence the name 'High Intensity Interval Training'). It is great for the heart and your athletic ability, since it lowers recovery time.

At the same time, if your body is in the kind-of shape to do HIIT, you should be mixing this in with steady-state cardio and low-intensity longer cardio sessions. That coupled with weight-wearing activities (depending on your age) will give you the best results.
