HIIT: Question about sprinting.....

When you crank up the speed on the treadmill it takes some time for the speed to reach the full throttle.... does everyone count that time for the duration of the sprint? Or do you wait until the treadmill is at full speed to start counting the time of the sprint?

does it really matter?

Take this... if you were doing it with a coach that blew the wistle at intervals... say 30 seconds followed by 2 minute recovery...

the coach wouldn't wait for you to reach top speed to start the 30 second clock... nor would he wiat for you to reach a slowed pace to start your recovery clock... or maybe he/she would?

Anyways.. look at it this way... start speeding up at your interval and don't start slowing down until the time is up...

that is just my opinion... sorry I really offered you no help... except to maybe help you think about it and determine if it is still important to you... I guess if it makes a differnce an expert here will chime in...

I count right as my speed interval starts and slow down the very second I'm allowed to for my rest period. You're really talking a matter of 2-4 seconds of transition time. In the large scope of things, thats not enough to worry about. IMO of course :)

lol windchime, u dont need to be so "technical" xP

sprinting is basically running as fast as you can in intervals. keeping your heart rate @ 90-100%

going at ur top speed, varies from person to person, if i were you, just sprint for 45 seconds - 1 minute, then take a 1 minute breather - jog/walk @ 50-75% heart rate. repeat.

Do it outside in the fresh air, that way you dont need to wait for the treadmill to speed up, just go as quickly as your legs will take you for the specified time then jog for the specified time...simple, means no messing round with machines :)

Thanks everyone. You guys are right, i guess I am being "technical" I just want to get the most out of my work out.

THANKS!
