HIIT or simple jogging

Hi All,

I have not been training for about 2 months now and trained (weights & cardio) on and off for 6 months prior to that after a 3 year lay off.

i am determined to get back into shape, have quit smoking and eating healthy for a month know...i have heard alot about HIIT and as part of my cardio plan i want to start jogging...should i do this HIIT and if so whats the best routine for me or shall i stick to steady jogging? thank you for your help in advance

HIIT works best when you are trying to pack on muscle. It gives you a good cardio workout that burns as much fat without loosing as much muscle in the process, and can be completed rapidly. The downside is that it doesn't give your heart and lungs as good of a workout - the things that a cardio workout traditionally are good for. So for getting into general shape, I would go with steady jogging. For dropping fat or while lifting weights, HIIT.

After. If you are going to do cardio and weights on the same day - always do the weights first and the cardio last. Ideally you do them on different days, but that isn't always possible. And I don't because of time constraints. Weight training is an explosive activity so you need your energy stores for that. Cardio should be a long term thing so you should be much more able to go without the explosive energy that gets used up first (from the weight training in this case).

Thanks again! Training routines? I dont regard myself as a complete beginneer as i have been training on and off, however what would be the best training method for someone who has not been consistent in their training, certain body parts or an all over body workout in a day? (I will also be doing cardio on the same day) my aim is to loose the fat!...happy xmas and new year!!

To loose the fat - either one really works. For muscle mass or strength gains a split routine is certainly better. If you have the time, go for a split weight routine. There are lots of places with suggested workouts - pick one that you like and that you have all of the equipment for.
