HIIT or LSD or my own?

Hi everyone,

I need some help about selecting HIIT vs. LSD vs. my own?

I am 26, M, 5' 9", 200 lb. I worked out for a year without having any specific weight loss or muscle building goals in my mind. Mainly, I used to lift weights (easy), jog/run on a treadmill (moderate) and play squash (hard). During this period, I didn't really watch my diet like counting calories everyday. Then I had a hectic project for 4 months during which I couldn't exercise at all. I gained 10 pounds in this period. Now I have joined a fitness facility since one week and I came across this HIIT vs. LSD debate. My main goal is to loose weight (fat) and build not-so-much-muscle. I read about HIIT all over the Internet and all of it might be right but for some reason I don't get it. Maybe just because my past habit. I used to do something like this:

5 mins - warm up (about 3.0-3.3 mph)
5 mins - jog (5.5 mph)
5 mins - walk (3.7 mph)
5 mins - run (6 mph)
5 mins - walk (3.7 mph)
5 mins - run (6.5 mph)
5 mins - cool down

I used to vary the pace when I am not walking based on how comfortable I felt and maybe repeat the entire cycle if I felt right. I went up to 7.5 mph and as low as 5 mph when running. And I used to feel really tired after say running 5 mins at 6.5 mph. On an average I used to burn between 375 to 425 calories in a session.

Can someone shed some light on what should I do. Should I continue what I have been doing and wait to see results or try something new?

Thank you all.

What you wrote out is not High intensity interval training, its just interval training.

Look in the HITT forum for more info.

I know.. that's why I said 'my own'. I was just wondering if someone else is doing similar things and getting success or failure or what?

I've always had the best results from low intensity fasted cardio from a fat loss/muscle retention standpoint.
