HIIT Mix

I started doing HIIT. I figured I should give it a try. My goal at the moment is to maximize weight loss, minimize muscle loss, and get back into shape (1.5 years off, torn achilles) Anyway I started doing HIIT 3 times a week. I was jogging/walking at least 2.5 miles a day (half up hill/half down hill) Then I thought to myself... Would I not be getting the best of both worlds if I either did that on off HIIT days and /or possibly opposite my HIIT training in the same day. (i.e. 2.5 miles in the morning, HIIT in the evening) Is there any reason not to do this? Ive been also trying to limit myself to 5 days a week, its always tempting to get another run in on the off days and burn 300-500 more calories each extra day....

Have you read the stickied threads in the exercise forum and how are you doing HIIT?

I have read the stickied threads regarding HIIT. At this point I am doing a 3 mine warm up run... then 10 second intense sprint, followed by 30 second rest. Rinse and repeat for a total of 16 go rounds... I was also going to mix in another one I saw... 30 second burn, 1 minute rest... for no more then 15 minutes straight... but I havent really seen anything that addressed cardio on off HIIT days... The HIIT alone might be all I/one needs but it seems doing a little extra more medium paced stuff couldnt hurt... unless theres an issue with recovery time... but how much recovery do you need from 15 minutes of intense work?

I would slide in weight training instead of trying to do HITT and steady state. Everyone's recovery time is different. For that matter everyone's HITT work is different.

I was planning on including that as well. At the moment, I am fortunate to be able to work from home 4 days out of the week (not sure how long that will last) so as soon as I can figure out which gym I want to join I will be doing that as well... at the moment I try to do pushups, situps and some work with some dumb bells every day/every other day....
