high Resting heart rate?

My husband's resting heart rate is pretty high at 75.
Although he works with weights he does not get a lot of cardio (although he is trying to up his cardio).

My question is what are the dangers of a high heart rate? His dad died young of heart disease (in hit 50's), and I want to make sure my hubbie is around for a while.

Any info on this would be much appreciated.

TIA,

75 seems pretty normal. However, more cardio will bring it down and more is usually good (if your not overdoing it).

75 is pretty normal.
I am a nurse and the avg heart rate that I observe is well into the 80's
If you do want to get it down then I suggest walking at a 4 mile per hour pace for 45 to 60 minutes, you should a very great improvement within a month.
If it gets into the 50's do not worry. Most nurses I know will call the doc at 50 it scares them but this is great.
It also depends on when you take his heartrate, the only accurate time to take the pulse is upon awakening on a good nights sleep. This is the lowest and if you took his midday then upon wakening it will probally be in the 60's which is great. You can do more harm with excessive cardio the with low intense cardio.
Good Luck in you're upkeep of your husband's health.

A higher than average (if you're normally 60 or 65 and you're up to 75) it could be a sign of overtraining..

hmm.. my resting heart rate is at about 70 per minnute.. if i measured it correct that is. i do cardio.. i was expecting my heart rate to be lower than normal.. but i guess i was wrong :S

I heard Wayne Gretzky's resting heart rate was in the 40s or maybe even lower, could be a rumour. But what an athlete.
