High frequency, low volume, opinions?

I'm trying to lose weight. I want to keep getting stronger (CNS) even though I know muscle mass may not increase dramatically. I haven't worked out for 5 years but was into it for 3 or so years before - mostly powerlifting.

Would doing 2 sets of 8 reps for all body parts with moderate intensity 5-6 times a week be good for me? I want to spend a good portion of time exercising, but especially at the begining, knee problems don't allow too much walking/jogging or anything. And going more than 3 times a week is probably important for my initial motivation.

What does everybody think of such a routine?

I don’t like it at all.

Try this and report back in 4-8 weeks. Start with just the bar because over reaching will turn off interest in lifting. If you get bored report back sooner and we can spice it up.

This, or Starting Strength. As I always say, eat clean, life hard, rest well, and you're golden. Yep, it's that simple :)

I've realized bodyweight training does WONDERS for strength gaining. I've seen people with amazingly nice looking backs, doing 250-300lbs lat pulls at the gym who struggle to do simple pull-ups.

I don't want to start a whole "real world strength" garbage debate, but bodyweight exercises do amazing things and should never be left out of ANY routine, especially if you're wanting to get STRENGTH.

I'll look into it, but *sigh*, are all websites these days cheap looking blogs? Is that a new trend or something? I guess it beats geocities (R.I.P), but it isn't much better.

That said, I did do 5x5 (or 5x3 in some cases) with Westside Barbell methodology back when I was powerlifting regularly.

I'm with you man. The real word strength has tons of validity in my opinion. Anyone that isn't a pro bodybuilder who lives on their aesthics should realize that the, dare I say this word again on this forum  haha, "functional" aspect is very important.

Yeah the 5x5 is somewhat of a deceiving site I guess, if you think of it that way. The program basis is great though. Ignore the other crap. If you want you can buy Starting Strength to feel better about it. I will tell you that it's nearly the exact same setup. HOWEVER, there is A LOT of information on the main lifts. The first chapter is 60+ pages on how to squat :D.

after every set of back i do pull-ups, i love to do them same with push-ups when iw ork chest. i do about 200-300 pull-ups and push-ups during a workout, different days of course. but they are amazing they does the body good lol
