Hi... newbie looking for guidance

Hi, I am currently working towards trying to lose weight. I am not extremely over weight but would like to lose 15 - 20 pounds. I have failed several attempts in the last 3 years when the weight came on. It seems that I just cannot lose the weight and then I give up. I am a teacher and I decided this year that when summer came I was going to go about things differently. Instead of trying to "diet" and go on a specific plan, I thought I would look at this as a lifestyle change and cut out some of the bad habits I had created. So, about a month ago right after school was out (always easier to start something in the summer)... I gave up fast food (I was eating this about 3 -5 times per week for dinner), I gave up soda (was drinking at least 1 per day), and I gave up eating chocolate all afternoon (as I was doing at work) and snacking on potato chips and crackers at night. I started eating more vegetables, more protein, healthier snack options and I started working out 6 days per week plus getting in 10,000+ steps per day. I also increased my water intake. In the last month I have lost 2 pounds and gained 1 back. I did measure myself a month ago and did my measurements today. I have lost about 1 1/2 inches across my bottom and between 1/4 - 1/2 inch in my waist, hips, lower/upper stomach, arms, and thighs... I'm not sure if 1/4 - 1/2 inch is good or not for a whole month. I'm not trying to lose a lot of weight fast because I know that never lasts but I'm getting frustrated. I understand that when you workout you gain muscle that sometimes weighs more than fat but I still feel like I should have lost more than 1 pound in 4 weeks.

Here is some info about me:
I'm 44 years old
139 pounds
5'3" tall
I do not know my BMI
I have been doing 25 minutes of Piyo 3 days per week and 3 days using my fit board in combo with 2 pound weights for arm exercises, 10 pound kettle ball (kettle ball swing), and some other leg exercises without weights. I started doing some beginners yoga this week (simple 10 minutes) as well.

Any words of wisdom would be fantastic.

Thank you in advance!

Hi
I would suggest cutting sugars and added sugars, reduce your carb intake and up your proteins. Keep up with the exercise and increase the amount of weight you are lifting focus on compound lifts for example deadlifts, squats, bench press these are great exercises. And maybe take up jogging or bike riding .

Hi, Stayce & welcome to the forum. Your BMI, using the Australian Heart Foundation calculator is-
"Healthy Weight (BMI 18.5 to 24.9)
Your BMI
24.3 Healthy
Your suggested healthy weight range 106 - 142Lbs
You are a healthy weight for your height. But we recommend that you also check your waist measurement. "
While it may have felt frustrating to lose 1 lb in one month, I think that is excellent. You will be getting so fit & healthy & will lose fat & build muscle. It should be sustainable. Well done!
