Hi! Well, I found this site through Yahoo, and I'm very glad that I did!

I'm 20 years old and weigh 198lbs. I never thought I'd get as big as I am, but then again, who does? My lack of exercise and activity after High School, seems to have brought me into this situation, as well as my horrible eating habits. I am a very picky eater, so I find it very hard to go on any of these crazy diets. As a result, I have decided to count calories instead, which so far seems to work for me.

I recently joined a gym. As much as I enjoy the workout once I'm there, I find it quite hard to get motivated to go. I started out at 204 lbs, and have lost 6 from working out, but after getting out of the habit, it seems even harder to get back into. I know that when it comes down to it, no one can help me but myself, but the motivation or inspirational words are definitely needed.

Thanks so much for reading this and for any responses I may receive! I really look forward to sharing so much more with all of you, and hopefully helping each other on our way to major accomplishments! :)

Hi coastergirl, it seems you and I share the same main problem. Motivation. Although you've gone once step better than me, you joined the gym! I'd love to but don't have the money. Don't waste your membership by not going girl! Find someone to go with you so you have an appointment you have to keep.

I strongly recommend you start a daily diary in the weight loss diary section. The trick is to be completely truthful about any slip ups and lack of exercise. It soon gets you back on track. My diets usually only last a day or two before a slip up makes me give up, but the girls here really encourage you and make you want to do it for yourself. For me Its only been a week and a half but it still a milestone, and I'm not about to give up now.

As for calorie counting, Theres a great website I use to help me with that. . It got lots of American brand names, so being in New Zealand, I only use it as a rough guide. I find theres nothing better than thinking that you've over eaten and ruined your day and then finding out that you've still done pretty well.

Goodluck, though the forum you'll get plenty of support.

HI there and welcome to the forum.

You are already on your way - good for you!
Listen to Jennylee, she's right about finding somebody to go to the gym with. Years ago when I went with a girlfriend, I never missed a workout, now I find a million and half excuses, why I can't exercise or I just forget:(

Good Luck with your goals and keep us posted.

welcome! You sound just like me! We'll make good pals! I know you will find this forum helpful and I wish you all the luck in the world! Make sure you visit us daily and tell us how you are, we are all here to support you!

Thank you!

Thank you for replying. I already feel support and encouragement. Yesterday my mom said "You look really good, keep it up." That right there was plenty encouragement for me to go work out as soon as I left, which I did.

Jennylee- I realized that my last post made it sound like I've been a member at my gym for a while and haven't went. I'll admit I haven't gone as much as I wish, but my cause for stopping was my membership running out at another facility. I am definitely going to look for a buddy to work out with. When I was working out at the other place, my boyfriend always went with me. The odd thing about it is, I found myself motivating him to get up and go. I suppose in motivating him, I was motivating myself, and now have to do it on my own. I can do it though, thanks so much. Oh and by the way, thanks for that website, it's VERY helpful!

AllCdnBoy & Lisa- Thanks for the support and I'll keep you updated!

NewBride- It is always great to hear that there is someone in the same position as me. I look forward to us encouraging each other and becoming great friends in the process.
