I have been trying to lose for a while but became seriouse within the past few weeks or so, my only problem is I eat too much crap, I have joined a gym and go like 3 times a week to improve my cardio, I try to walk a mile everyday,

How does everyone do it, how do you stay motivated? In addition, in order to lose weight, your caloric intake must be < calories burned daily - is this correct?

How much less does it have to be to lose 2-3 lbs a week, I want to start slow

Welcome!

yes, cals in vs cals out is how you loose weight.

I know there is a certain # of cals that equal a pound, but i can't remember i'm sorry...i know when i stick to 1200 cals and I loose about 3 pds a week.

Hey, I do not know exactly how many cals it takes to lose a certain amount of fat or a certain weight, but I can tell you how many cals is a pound of fat.

1g of carbs or protein is 4 kcals.
1 g of fat is 9 kcals

1 pound is 450 grams

Therefore, one pound of fat is 450*9 = 4050 kcals

Keep in mind that you will not lose just fat, but lean body mass also. In addition, some energy is dissipated and not utilized efficeintly, so a prediction cannot be accurate.

Hope that helps a bit.

actually i believe 3500 calories is a pound and welcome to the forum!!
