Hello everyone,

Looking for support, and I want to give it back 10 fold. I'm from Las Vegas Nevada and I am new and fresh to Cohen's. I received my registration back today and I will be going to clinic for blood on Monday.

I am a food addict, so it will be hard for me. But I want to lose this weight more then anything. I'm tried of thinking about it all day and having it on my mind first thing when waking. I am about 65lbs over weight. I'm 6'2" and about 265lbs.

Me, like many of you have tried so many diets and I have even tried body cleansing. I did VERY well and lost 60lbs back in 2002 on a plan that is about calorie counting. It works every time, but I have attempted to try it so many times again and I can't use that system anymore.

I have some early bird questions:

-Who determines what my goal weight is?

I am not able to go by the "ideal weight scale", if I did I would be dead. I have to account for my muscle mass and I would like to weigh around 195lbs.

Anyway, I have been lerking on this board and it's good to read about your success. You have my support.

-Mark.

Hi there!

Hi Mark! No I'm not a guy, but I thought I'd reply so you didn't feel left out :D Also I should point out I'm not doing Cohen's either, but have a friend who is so I know the program and complexities of it!

You'll find there aren't really many other guys in here doing Cohen's. There was one - LessFatty - however he recently completed his refeed. I've noticed he does pop back in occasionally though so he may see your thread and introduce himself. He kept a diary on another Cohen's-only forum - if you find one of his threads you'll see the link in his signature.

Other than that, I don't think I've seen any other guys in here! Cohen's is a very restrictive diet, and they don't really allow additional nutrients for exercise etc - so possibly many guys prefer to take a more traditional approach of exercise & calorie counting. Who knows?

Your goal weight is determined by using a form of the BMI scale that also takes into account bone structure by using foot size. Have no idea about the science behind that one, but anyway... The BMI scale usually gives quite a big range for goal weight and usually is appropriate for the general population. Obviously it's not so useful for bodybuilders etc. Having said that, Cohen's isn't a good plan for bodybuilders either as you don't eat enough to be able to weight-train etc.

Just googled a standard BMI calculator, and 195lbs for someone 6'2" is the perfect weight so maybe use that as your goal. Personally though I think your ideal weight is the one you're at when someone takes your photo and you look at it and think "damn I look good!". Looking in the mirror doesn't help as for some reason we tend to mentally distort the image that stares back :(

Another method is to buy your dream outfit in your dream size, and keep going until it fits right. You can also use free websites like fittogether.net to record your vital stats and get a report detailing your lean body mass etc so you can keep track of your progress.

Whatever means you choose, obviously your ultimate goal is to make permanent changes to your lifestyle. Cohen's will certainly lead you in that direction if you follow the instructions to the letter.

Best wishes for a quick and painless journey!
Cheers,
