Hi, My name is Debbie and I am new to this board. Basically, I am taking a step in the direction of a new Healthy Life Style. I have been a yo-yo dieter all my adult life and I am TIRED of it!

I am 35 (will be 36 in November) and I weigh 171 today. I have a loving husband and adorable twin sons named Nathan and Noah. I have hyper-thyroid and will be taking the radioactive iodine pill in the next several weeks. Hyper-thyroid is supposed to make you loose weight but I have gained instead... I have gained 12 pounds in the last year.

Exercise.... well, in October I walked 60 miles in the Breast cancer 3 day. I walked over 100 miles in 3 months just training for the walk... then 60 miles in 3 days on the walk. And did I mention that I lost NO pounds.... since October I have not walked AT ALL! I got burned out on it and have now joined our YMCA instead and hope to do cardio, yoga, palaties, etc.... at the Y!

So, here is my deal. I have NOOOOO discipline! I have NOOOO will power! All my friends are thin... I just really need some support and accountability... Will I get that here????

My goal is to loose 31 pounds. My goal is to exercise 3 to 4 times a week. My goal is to get healthy. I do not know where to start really. I am thinking about buying that book Oprah likes from Greene..??

I am on my computer several times a day and I would like to connect with some people who can help me and I can, in turn, help others!

Please share your thoughts and suggestions...

Hi there!

I hear ya about having all skinny friends!!! If it makes you feel any better, standing next to me, you are pretty skinny!

I recently started counting calories and actually realized how well this diet fits me! I hope you find what works best for you! There is all sorts of info on these boards.

Welcome!!!

Welcome!

I am new to these boards too! We sound very much alike. I weigh 171, I need to lose about 30 pounds I also have 2 small children ages 1 and 2. Maybe we can motivate each other....??
Best of luck to you!
I think cardio and weights is a good start for me AND drinking lots of water and smaller food portions for me is my first goal.
Welcome again!
Ana
p.s. how tall are you?

Thanks for welcoming me! So, I am 5'3"... I had surgery for a ruptured ectopic pg 10 years ago so I have the "shelf" as I like to call it. That is where I tend to carry the most of my weight. That was sweet of you bep to say I'm skinny beside you!!!! I jokingly tell people I was born a size 14!!!! I was big as a kid and only slimmed down in high school (mostly due to being so active with color guard, band, drama, etc..) Then when I got married and moved in with my husband I gained 20 pounds the very first year! That was the beginning of the diet wars!

Today I had to go buy a western outfit for a party on Thursday. I decided to go to Walmart so I wouldn't spend to much because I hope to give the outfit away in a couple months because it will be to BIG!!!!! Yes, I had to buy women's sizes!!! URGH!!!!

I bought Bob Greene's book yesterday. I think I will start there. I didn't make it to the Y today but will try for tomorrow. My biggest weakness is SUGAR! Sweet tea, sweetned coffee, ice coffee, cappachino, fraps, etc... So I ate a great breakfast but with my jumbo sweet tea and then had another sweet tea from Wendys. My biggest change so far (in the last 24 hours) is that I didn't eat anything last night after dinner. I am going to try to stick to the eat by 3 hours before bed. In the past I have been a big cereal at night eater. Even If I wasn't hungry. It's the sweet touch thing.... So, I have been very consious of asking myself if I am hungry before I decide to eat something.

So, that is how it is going so far. Is there another place on this board where I can meet some more people! I kinda don't know where to jump in!

Hope everyone is having a great day today!!!!

Debbie

Welcome Debbie. You have the right idea. We can give you all the support that you need and with our help you have to promise yourself that you will abandon your sweet tooth. Cutting the sugar way down is a very good start in a healthy new you. There are other sugar substitutes out there. With research, you will find great substitutes to appease your cravings. You came to the right place and it is great to have you here.

Yeah, Splenda is okay. I definatly tastes WAY better than the pink or blue stuff to me... But the problem is not the taste, it is making the decision to do the right thing.... It is soooo much easier to feed the craving than to be strong and resist the temptation but that is the attitude that has gotten me into this!

I guess I will go to Publix tomorrow and buy the biggest darn bag of Splenda that they make! Also, I do like Crystal Light peach tea... I CAN DO THIS!!!!!
