Hi how do I lose weight?

Depends on what you weigh now (compared to your height and build), what your lifestyle is, how much you´re eating (and what) and exercising... No one answer will fit everyone.

You might try eating less fast food.

If you could tell us a bit more about yourself and your goals it would be easier for folks to answer. Things like your sex, age, goal, any health issues, current diet beyond just junk food, etc.

Best of luck to you!

185 lbs as a man, or a woman? 5 ft or 6ft 6? Eating homecooked meals instead of fastfood generally helps but if a 450 kcal burger is a meal for you you can absolutely lose weight on a fastfood diet. Whether you´ll be healthy and full is another matter entirely.

I am female. I'm 32. I want to weigh around 120 lbs. I have high cholesterol. I usually eat like chicken or beef and rice. I'm 5'2".

[QUOTE="camvill462, post: 1175075, member: 231465".... i eat a lot of fast food.[/QUOTE]

why? no time? no kitchen?

For less-bad fast food; if you have a panda express you can get a 230 calorie bowl of broccoli beef with super greens that is pretty filling. Has a lot of sodium though... At burger joints try getting a low carb lettuce wrap burger or chicken sandwich and skipping sauces, sodas, and fries...

Batch cooking and freezing healthy meals has worked well for me in the past.

If you can just set aside a couple of hours you can make a few healthy meals at the weekend and then freeze to have them during the week.

If the weather is good - then salads take only a couple of minutes to wash and cut - so a lot less time than going out for fast food.

Food prep can be a life-saver when you're trying to lose weight. I hate it but I do it anyway, most of the time. If you can't/won't do home cooking, look at the nutritional info on menus (it's not 100% reliable but it's a start). Going by the info you've given you should be able to lose 1-2 pounds a week eating 1500-1600 kcal a day. I assume you want to get/stay healthy and not feel too hungry so you'll need to keep an eye on your vitamins/minerals/protein/fiber. If I'm having to depend on restaurant meals I try to pick one high-protein item (in the case of fast food: a wrap or burger) and add a salad or fresh fruit. Either no dressing or dressing on the side where you add just a teaspoon or so of it to your bowl because one little packet of ranch dressing is 140 kcal (ymmv, I don't live in the US so packet size may be different where you are). If the total of your meals and snacks doesn't exceed your calorie goal for the day you should lose weight.

Batch cooking and freezing healthy meals has worked well for me in the past. ....

last week i made my usual chili recipe which is basically 4x the normal package amount. i really never time myself because there are shortcuts that can be taken. i chop up tomatoes, but you can buy them diced in a can, almost as healthy. you can buy cans of beans, but i'm trying to modify that by soaking and cooking dried beans (actually these don't take much time as most of it is waiting or cooking for the most part unattended). so i can get the whole batch cooked up in as little as an hour.... probably less. this makes 12 cups of chili. 8-12 servings that take 3 minutes of prep in the µW. i'll bet that's even faster than some fastfood with probably 100% less added sugar*.

basically everything i make at home is fast food. i love chili rellenos and when i'm out and see them on the menu i will sometimes get them, but they take hours of prep and cooking at home.

don't forget that a lot of things can also be frozen (when ground beef is on sale i sometimes double my alredy 4x chili recipe and freeze half. when i make soup (slightly on the labor intensive side), i will freeze at least half and enjoy it for weeks.

cooking for me has an additional benefit.
it's time i can spend in the kitchen that doesn't involve eating.
my latest tip... get yourself a good sharp knife... :)

* don't think restaurants do not put added sugar in nearly everything. ever wonder why some restaurant food seems to taste a little better? they know what will bring back customers.

Especially in winter when you want to come home and have a hot nourishing meal just afterwards - I use my slow cooker quite often.

It is perfect. For instance a few days ago I chopped up onion, courgettes and peppers and some cubed chicken in with curry sauce and left it cooking in the slow cooker... We came in on a cold, wet night and served up the curry straight away.. Since I had a reasonable amount of vegetable in it - we choose not to eat it with rice - it was tasty, nourishing and filling.

Once you get into the swing of it - it actually only takes a couple of minutes to chop up a bit of veg - especially if - like courgettes and peppers there is no peeling and it is a matter of washing and chopping. You can often buy either fresh or frozen prepared vegetables.

One of my favorite home-assembled convenience foods is bagged salad. I'll get a family-size bag of Ceasar salad and throw half of the lettuce in a salad bowl along with 1/4 of the dressing packet, 1/4 of the parmesan cheese, 1/2 of the seasoning, and no croutons. I'll then add a can of chicken.

It takes just a minute or two to prepare, only dirties the bowl & fork, tastes good, and has pretty good protein & fiber for ~300-350 calories. And I still have half the bag to use again later...

If I'm feeling more ambitious, I might chop up a few heads of romaine lettuce and misc vegetables once or twice a week and store them in airtight containers so I can quickly add more bulk to salads, omelets, etc.

Over the past 11 years I have been married to an amazing man who is soon to be retired from 20 years in the Air Force. I had 2 amazing kids and I gained 110 pounds. Two years ago I realized I wasn't losing the weight on my own. I went to the doctor and found I had a Hiatal hernia, due either to my high weight increase or pregnancies. I had to have surgery to fix it. That made me get serious, I did not want it to slip and have to go through surgery again. I was lucky to have free access to a nutritionist and personal trainer through the base. Using the resources I had available and ...... kept me from straying from my goal. I finally started to keep off the weight I was losing.
I used ........as a way to keep myself going when I felt down. If I won, I could get myself something fun! I loved the weekly check-ins to keep myself on track. I loved the motivation from the other players. It wasn't about the money; it was about supporting each other and helping out when we could. If you are thinking of trying a game DO IT! You won't regret it, then send me the link and I'll join it right along with you!
