Hi guys & gals

I'm new here and really have no idea where to start. I just got a new membership with bally's and have starting eating better for 2 weeks now and just taking it one day at a time. I have had a hard decision and that was to either lose the weight on my own or to have a gastric bypass. I have opted out of having surgery because in IMHO, I think that wil be like trading one problem for another. I'm not bad mouthing the surgery, I think it's great for people who are left with this as a last resort. I feel I can still be helped, I'm a very active 28 year old even at 408lbs and I'm willing to work hard and get the weight off. I haven't always been 400lbs, I've weighed as little as 180, but for most of my life weight has been an issue for me. I'm now 28, no children, no husband/boyfriend and just now completing my BSN. I'm going to be doing my second semester of clinicals this fall and last semester was a nightmare for me. I was miserable, I did it and was successful, but I was still miserable and have since decided that I don't want to be helping someone else healthwise when my own is in shambles. I've gotten my wake up call and I've decided to answer it. I have toured the site and I admire each and every last one of you and look forward to being an active member here. I'll digress because I could go on forever. Good luck to all and I look forward to meeting some awesome people here.

I really want to start a diary, but I'm looking for a scale so I can give good updates. I'm not only new to the boards, but to this serious approach to lose some real weight as well. I went shopping this morning and I think I did good in terms of what I bought. I'm so proud of me even though this is the beginning, I think this is it (the time I'm going to really do it). I'm so lucky to have found this board.......:D

hi!

Hello! You can lose the weight, you just have to decide on a reasonable plan that you can live with for the long term, and then stick to it! I am personally glad you are not opting for surgery. I have known several people who have had it, and I have not known even one who has kept their weight off after 3 years. I know, there must be people who do, but I have not known any. Good luck with all your efforts!
