Hi, from the Uk.. and a question.. thanks.

Hi everyone, I am Shaun from the UK.
IU am 33 years old, and spend ALL day sat down - I drive a taxi-cab 12 hours a day then sit in front of the PC when I come home.
Anyhow.. I have started turning things around.
I started dieting about 2 months ago and have now lost about 21 lbs in eight.

My "plan" is to wait until I hit my target weight of 10stone 6 lbs (I am 5 foot 2 inches high and weigh, currently 12stone 11pounds) before I start going to the GYM 2 or 3 times a week. I am thinking on this line because I read somewhere that if you train your abs while overweight, the muscles build behind the fat (in my stomach) so it would just push the fat outwards...

So, my question is... is this the right way to think? wait until I reach my target weight and do aerobic for now... or should I do the gym now while Im still losing weght.

Im quite stocky for my height, and I dont want to lose too much of that and end up looking 'thin'

Thanks
Shaun Baird

First of all .. Welcome ... Secondly, you don't have to wait to reach your "goal weight" before you start weight training. Unless you have physical limitations or doctors orders not to, I would start lifting weights ASAP. Weight training will HELP you achieve your goals. Be sure to train your whole body, not just certain bodyparts. You say you have lost weight on your current "diet." If possible, can you post what a normal day's diet looks like for you. Drink lots of water. But to answer your question, yes, start lifting weights :)
Good luck with your goals and deciding to change your life.

Hi, and thanks.

Its a weight watchers -'no-points' diet which meands that I can eat as much as I like of certain 'free' foods, such as salad, veggies, potatoes, rice chicken, lean meats etc.
Most days I will have salad with chicken or potato, with cereal in the morning, and maybe rice or pasta at night.
Sometimes I eat tuna as well.

Funny thing, after reading this forum for a while, it motivated me to go for a jog!!! its been a long time!

What about aerobic exercise? would this be better? Many thanks
Shaun

How many times a day do you actually eat ? It was hard to tell by your response. Are you eating a carb and protein at each meal ? I don't know much about the weight watchers "points" diet. Maybe others on here can help you with that. As far as aerobic exercise, if I had a choice and could only pick one, I would choose weight training over aerobics. but you can combine the two and get the most bang for your buck.

Thanks for your reply jpc..

usually 3 meals a day and if Im hungry in between meals I would snack on a piece of fruit or yoghourt etc.

yesterday, for instance, I had cereal for breakfast. At lunch I had a chicken salad, and for tea I had pasta - and I went for a jog last night and ended up coming back and drinking water.

Cheers!

Shaun
