Hello Everyone,

I am a new member. My story is probably a common one. Today I found out that I have a special event on 12 March that requires me to wear an old uniform. Believe it or not, I bought this uniform in 1982, yes over 30 years ago. Over the years, I was required to wear this uniform about 3 times a year, and it's been modified several times to enlarge it. Every year I struggle around the dates of the special events to fit into this darn thing, and this time will be the LAST time I have to wear it as I'm retiring.

So, I have to get into shape to fit into this old uniform one last time. I already exercise about 5 times a week, and my biggest problem is that I have a massive appetite. I'm not a very big person, but I admit I eat a lot. I love food. Luckily, I have always eaten healthy, home made food from scratch, but massive portions. I'm a vegetarian for the most part and I usually don't eat a lot of sweets other than dates, figs and some dark chocolate (oh I love chocolate).

Today is the first day of my diet, and I'm trying to eat less. For my supper I made a tomato-based vegetable soup with cabbage, mushrooms, carrots, potato, celery, garlic broccoli and cauliflower - with one handful of whole grain macaroni. And then I had a bowl of salad with romaine lettuce, arugula, baby beet greens, cukes, and red pepper, topped with some olive oil and balsamic vinegar - no salt. Plus half of a small slice of homemade brown bread with a little bit of butter. I limited myself to only two servings of the soup, rather than my normal 3 or more. I am proud of myself that I didn't overeat (I think).

I hope that I can continue to maintain my portion control, it's so hard for me. Normally I have a snack before bed and I'm writing this instead. I have very little willpower so I hope that by writing it helps.

It's evening in the Netherlands and the day is winding down. For the past three nights, I have diligently not snacked before bedtime, but I find it so very difficult. Are there any tricks that you can use not to eat before going to bed? I am drinking a lot of water and reading, knitting, and trying to keep my mind off this. Thank you.

Hi Rubyrosebuds! Welcome to the forum! I would suggest making a diary in the diary section. You'll get a lot more responses to your question. The diary section is frequented by a lot more people. Lots of support to be found there. :) Night time snacking is my biggest downfall too, so I'm not much help on that. I play around on the computer, watch tv, and try to avoid the kitchen. haha!

there's healthy snacks! try some fruit. Or like jen_renee said do a food diary, and sometimes you can incorporate some of your favorite foods into your diet just with moderation and portion control!

I, myself, downloaded a food diary app on my phone where I can look up foods and workouts and keep track.

I had three cheese tortellini and vodka sauce for dinner and I'm still within my diet and losing weight

good luck!
