Hi I'm Mel (Hi Mel) and I have a problem...I'm a late night snacker

I've been struggling with weight issues ever since I started taking a certain medication, I've never been stick skinny but now I want to deal with this weight before it gets out of hand again. I lost 40 pounds over the last couple years coming down from my peak weight of 210 (ay) but I got into a rut and it kept getting tougher to lose another 5 and now I'm going the other way! (noOooOooo!!!) I'm hoping the forum can give me the added support I need and kick me back in the right direction. I'm a vegetarian but as we say "there isnt any meat on the dessert cart" haha.

Thanks so much everyone

-Mel

Welcome to the boards Mel, pleased to meet you. I'm sure that you will find lots of support on here. I'm not a vegetarian (I was an unsuccessful one many years ago though), but other on here are, and can maybe help steer you into the right direction.

Personally (others might disagree), I'm not against snacking, I think that its natural - sometimes those cravings are your body trying to tell you that it needs something. Its usually more about what you are snacking on...

Anyway, good luck with your journey!

thanks for the welcome!:)

I agree that snacks arent bad but when it's late at night I tend to go for whatever is easiest to snack on aka high calorie, thankfully I'm kicking the habit by changing to fruits

Welcome here Mel!

I'm a late night snacker too (and an all-day snacker as well:eek: ). Well, I used to be. In fact, I want a chocolate bar so bad right now I can taste it:mad: But I've been doing well distracting myself with other things, and by constantly chugging water. I know you can do the same!

Good luck, and I hope to see you in your own diary!

you guys are so sweet here!

about drinking water, I have a list on the fridge of things I should eat in case I get hungry and under snacks is ice water! I get so many people laughing at that but it helps with the craving :)

welcome to the boards :)

Its not always about WHEN you eat so much as how much in total and what you eat.
Im a night time eater myself, i have to have a larger dinner meal. So i have a decent breakfast and snack all day on bits and pieces usually using about 500-700 calories, then i have a larger dinner and often have some calories left over for snacks in the evening. There have been times ive had a large meal right before bed. So long as the total calories for me are under 1200 for the entire day it doesnt really matter, its all gonna get used up.

1200 is probably a little low for you, but never ever go under 1200 for the day :)

Another thing that seems to help is if say i feel like a couple of pieces of toast i have one piece of toast and large glass of water - then i wait about 30 minutes at least. It takes the edge off it in a big way.

I think I just have to perfect the art of snacking, I'm a night owl myself so I understand the big dinner. So nice to meet you wishes :)
