Hi Everybody

I just wanted to give a quick introduction to myself, my name is Aimee and I'm 18-years-old from Canada. I've just finished high school and will be attending University this fall.

Anyways, I'm 5'3, weigh 145 pounds and have a 'spoon' shaped body. Recently I bought an elliptical machine and have been using it for 20 minutes each morning for the past week. Basically what I'm wanting to know is how often I should 'up' the time I spend on the machine or if I should be doing other exercises or weight training. My goal is to lose 15 pounds in the next two months and hopefully make my body more proportional.
If anyone has some advice/tips for me, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Aimee,
That's a good question. I have been exercising on my treadmill
and I've been increasing my workout a little each week, hopefully
to avoid a plateau in weightloss! I also add an exercise like sit-ups
on the swiss ball or lifting some small weights for my arms.
Losing 15 lb.s in 2 months may be hard but it is possible.
That would average about 2 lb.s a week. I can only seem to shed
one pound a week. Well good luck! :D Tina

Hi Aimee

I'm using an elliptical trainer as well, 15 minutes is pretty good to start with then maybe increase your time and resistance a little more every week as your body adjusts to the trainer. Keep it up and you'll be looking good on Frosh week!

for noticeable results, you should be running about 3-4 hours a week. "they" say that you should be exercising a minimum of 20 minutes in one sitting before you will start getting optimal results from your exercise. I started off at 20 min and worked up to 45 in about 3 weeks and then up to an hour after another 1 1/2 months. You will receive your best results with HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) and mixing up your routine ... like doing 15 min on a bike, 15 min on Eliptical and then straight running for another 15, all at once.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I've gotten a gym pass to a fitness center so I can work out on some other machines like the bike and treadmill. I haven't started working with weights yet though. I know muscles help burn calories, but I heard that it could actually make me gain inches in the lower half of my body. Does anyone know if that is true, or if its only a temporary thing that will pass?

HI Aimee,

actually I never heard of it before. All I heard is that you tone up, but that's a good thing:)
Sorry I can't be of more help

yea, u can gain inches because ur building muscle ... for women, the ability to build muscle is mostly genetics. I know quite a few girls that go to the gym more than i do and do free weights for most of the time, but they stay light and don't do anything but tone them up, but they still have the nice womenly figure
