Hi all

I just found this forum and I hope to find some support here.

I am 6months pregnant and I really want to maintain my weight or lose weight as I weigh far too much. I am 1,76m and weigh 107kg. My BMI is around 34,5. With my first pregnancy I gained 26kg (92-118)and never lost all of them again. Until now I only gained 3 kg, I was 104 at the beginning,so not doing too bad til now.

Just wondering if any of you know any diet program that I can do while being pregnant??Or any advice in general?

I don't think you should do any serious dieting while pregnant - certainly you should avoid trying to lose weight. You might risk deficiencies which could cause you or the baby problems.

The best thing I think you could do would be talk to your doctor about the proper way to eat while pregnant. The other thing you could do which would not be harmful would be reducing sugar from your diet, particularly sweet drinks and confectionary.

I had gestational diabetes with my 1st pregnancy and had gained 20kg.

The suggestions I would give is go and see your Doctor first. Cutting out foods containing high sugars and salt and maybe eating little amounts throughout the day would assist.

Just try and focus on eating well for you and the baby think of the babies needs.

Go on a weight loss programme after the baby is born, remember that old saying that when your pregnant you are eating for two well your not and you know it is not true when I after the baby is born you are still carrying those extra kilo's around.

I think It's not safe to go on a diet while you're pregnant, because it could be harmful for you and your unborn baby.

Instead of thinking about dieting, look on these nine months as part of a larger story. You probably put on your extra weight during the years before you got pregnant. So rather than worrying about losing weight now, use this time to develop the good eating habits that will carry you through the rest of your life. This will help you to lose the weight after your baby is born. Hope this helps I hope you the best
