Hey Gang!

Well, Hi everyone. My name is Joel and I am a midwesterner new to the forum. I have lurked for a while now. I was pretty obese, and still am, but I have made some pretty good progress. Anyway I come to this forum to share what has worked for me and share my story (maybe some other time) and find motivation. Weight loss has slowed, and I an wanted to EAT! ARGH! So this seems like a great place for support.

I would like to do a tri- athlon ( a sprint) sometime in the near future, and have been working out to try and reach that goal.

I have a loving wife, and a 2 year old son (who is adequate motivation most of the time).

I also rarely proofread. Its not that I am not familiar with the English language, its just I have a billionty things going at once. That combined with a little ADD, and you've got a killer combo.

Wow it sounds like you are doing pretty good. I to was a lurker around here for some time and just joined up the other day.

Since you are offering advice, what have you been doing that works the best? I've tried various things and each come with a little success but now I'm stuck! It's really hard for me when I hit a plateau there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel :(

Also just wanted to say you sound like you have a great sense of humor. "A billionty things" I'll have to incorporate that word into my vocabulary :D

Oh and Welcome!

Hello

Morning everyone, I have a bit of a battle ahead of me, needing to lose 6 stone. I put most of it on in a year, due to going out with a girl who liked kebabs and pizzas as much as I do. Lucikly we're no longer together, but boy, I'm not going to find anyone with all this extra baggage.

Good luck to us all!

What my routine has been (except the recent downward spiral):

Excercise:
Monday - Upper body, Body for Life (Bill Phillips) style
Tuesday - 40 minute low intensity cardio
Wednesday- core and lower body training (basically pilates and some squats)
Thursday - 20 minute high intensity cardio- lot of sprinting
Friday - upper body again - BFL style
Saturday- low intensity cardio- 40 minutes

Low intensity cardio i rotate bike elliptical and jogging - i love jogging, but don't want to ruin my knees.

Diet -
Breakfast- one egg white on a piece of WW toast
2-3 hours later- a protein shake/ low carbs 200 cals
Lunch- 1/2 tuna sandwich with some veggies, usually carrotts
2-3 hours later, the other half of the tuna sandwich
dinner- sensible- veggies and small portions of meat and low gi carbs
2 hours later, another slim fast or protien shake.

Most people who have noticed I have lost weight, and need to lose some themselves ask me how i have done it, and when i tell them my methods, they usually get depressed. They want to hear "I found these pills at walmart. I can eat one of those, and then pig out and burn away all the fat i want, all the while I can just lay around all day!"

Man, I wish it was that easy too. After trying a lot of "diets" the truth lies in the fact that really, the only way to lose the weight correctly is through a lifestyle change. Finding a better balance between calories burned and consumed. I have lived on the wrong side of that equation for a long time, so I have to burn some extra calories for a while I guess.

Well, it looks to me like you're taking in about 1400 calories/day? That is a tough diet, and I know the work that is. A couple years ago I went from 330 to 275 and hit a wall at 275. If you hit a wall, just maintain if that is all you can do. Hold 275 for a month and then start again--or whenever you're ready. Just don't gain and you'll be doing just fine. I found there is a huge difference between weighing 330 and 275. I would get winded so fast if I just climbed 2 flights of stairs at 330. At 275 the world is a completely different place. I can actually do hard work consistently at that weight. Of course 200 or 210 would be even better.

Yeah, I have really plateaued out here recently. I am eating a little more this month and not gaining, but definitely not losing. I have cut down my cardio a little this month, to give my knees a little re-coop time.

Youre not kidding about the difference between 330 and 280. I am just stoked about the difference between 280 and even 250. The pic in your signature- where is that? It looks really cool.

Yeah, well as long as you can maintain you will be doing great. I've found that it's pretty easy to just maintain the weight as long as you don't think you can eat anything your heart desires.

That picture I took a few years ago at the Water Gardens here in downtown Fort Worth, TX. I don't know who the family is there. It is a nice place to go and hang out though.

I guess we can't insert a picture in the forum, so I'll post a link to it.

Regards,
Craig

That looks like a good diet to me.
A lot of diets tend to have just the regular cereal for breakfast etc. or a shake as a meal replacement. The combnation looks much more bearable.
