Hey everyone, my name is Nick Dorrell, I'm in need of some significant help.. I''m 18 and measure at 5'10 and weigh at 255 with a 43in waist. I'm enlisting in the Army and hopefully shipping in August. My recruiter says if I lose 3 inches on my waist I can finally swear in. I don't want to do the minimum. I want to be as ready as possible for BCT. That means I want my weight as low as possible before then. I'm already working out almost everyday, I really just need to know how few calories can I get away with for drastic weight loss. Can anyone help me out?

Hello Nick,

The fact that you exercise every day does not mean anything. You need to figure out your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) then work from that. According to the data you've given it's somewhere around 2,619 calories, daily.

In my experience 1-1.5kg per week is very doable, especially with your weight (possibly more, just being realistic here). You could go all in and lose even more, however, there maybe a possibility of having loose skin and/or stretch marks. You've got plenty of time to figure it out.

80% of your weight loss success comes from the diet. And add 20% with exercise, you'll probably be doing in the army anyway. So pushups, pullups/chinups, jumping jacks and jogging, or walking will do the trick. Remember, as long as you stay in a caloric deficit, you will burn fat.

Hope this helps.
