hey- big project and I need some input

Hey everybody. I hav a big project to do and I need a little help from as many ppl as I can possibly get. First off I want to say thank you to whom ever answers this.... and now the big question:
I need honest answers here- What is a paramedic and what do they do??
I have been surprised so far that the majority of ppl I have asked really don't know.. Also plz include your age as well.. Thanks heaps.. :)

Ill take a shot at this...

A paramedic is a person who provides critical treatment to patients. They provide immediate medical attention to those who may have life threatening injuries, stabilizing the patients conditions before they get a doctors care.

Thanks Allen I knew I could count on you :) I need as many responses as I can get, and its really important, so again Thanks..

Good thing I did this same question back in college... :D

Paramedics can do a wide variety of injury care from helping with cuts, preparing patients for surgerys on the way to the hospital, etc... (Basically what aevans said :p ) Also there are different levels of paramedics as far as specialities...

Age - 23

Thanks Dex. speedy reply..and you are correct about the different levels- different skill sets and meds that are allowed to be given.. very cool thank you. :)

Age 16 :p

Well I'm not as knowledgable about this but I do know a bit..

I think it's those people that drive the ambulances. They get emergency calls and are one of the first people on scene. They usually give oxygen to injured people, check their blood pressure, and tend to the injuries that they can. They have to know a lot too from what I know. My PT wants to be a paramedic :D

Okay then pass it!

Alright, a paramedic is two medics, hence "pair-a-medics"...they treat your wounds and their phone number is 9-1-1 in most American cities.

Age: 17

lol lei thats pretty funny.. haha i'll have to tell my instructors that one he'll die laughing.. Thanks so far to all that have replied and the more answers the better so keep em coming..

The word "paramedic" has 2 accepted origins. The first origin is a shortened version of "parachute medical" meaning military medics who would treat wounded soldiers by parachuting in. The other origin comes from the latin prefix "para" meaning along side or with, so paramedic means working with or beside medical personnel.

my definition was boring, Lei's was comical, I like his better :D

hey guys i just need a couple more posts and then this can die.. plz and thank you..:)

A paramedic is someone more schooled and knowledged (no, it's not a real word) than an EMT. :) They are often the ones that place the athlete on the stretcher and support their neck and head while the athletic trainer accompanies them to the hospital. :)

Paramedics are usually mobile and provide initial assessment and treatment of injuries/maladies/accidents etc, providing medical care or preparation should the casualty require hospital treatment. Kind of the Starsky & Hutch of the medical world I guess ;)
