Hey, I'm new to the forum and I have to say it's starting to look like I found the perfect website!

Anyways, I am a 14 year old male that is 220lbs, 6'1, and I calculated 30% body fat with the Navy method (154lbs lean mass and 66lbs fat mass). I have no existing medical conditions and am currently rowing crew five days a week for two and a half hours each day. I'm looking to lose 40-60 lbs for surgery (doc says 40lbs is bare minimum but 60 lbs is recommended.)

Thank you all in advance and I hope you have a wonderful day :)

Ibour,

The rowing crew five days a week, will help you lose weight and tone up your body. Stay away from the sports drinks as yes they taste great but they have too much sugar, to stay hydrated drink water.

Good Luck

Hi, lbour & welcome to the forum. What is your usual diet like? Do you eat lots of junk food & drink soda. Cutting right down on both of those would make a lot of difference. pm22 is right- drink water.

there is good new and bad news for someone like you who has the right conditions for weight loss... already having a solid exercise routine. if you haven't seen a weight loss with this, start getting smarter about the effect of insulin on burning fat... i.e. if you constantly have a high insulin to glucagon ratio, you can exercise till the cows come home and you'll never burn one ounce of fat. just searching on that will likely score a number of Google hits. look for and listen to lectures by the likes of Dr. Jason Fung & Dr Robert Lustig. this should give you a good start on understanding how nutrition works.

five and a half months ago i was 5'11" / 225 lbs. today i'm at 175 ... just about the same ballpark you seem to be in with a similar goal. in the year before this i tried my best with traditional methods of dieting and could never break 210-215. ...then i got smarter.
