Herbalife & Epilepsy? Help please.

Got a friend who gained substantial weight in the past year or so. She claims it's mainly because of the drug her doctor prescribed which she takes on regular basis to control her epilepsy. I think she was taking Rivotril before but has now switched to something else. Don't know which drug it is (I can ask if it's important), and I don't know much about epilepsy either. She's 31, and I can't say that I ever saw symptoms of it on her (we were in contact daily before she moved to Italy), which makes me slightly suspicious that it's possible she made up the whole 'new drug' thing, but since I'm no expert it's just as possible I'm wrong.
To the point, I advised her to tryout Herbalife arguing that I've personally seen it 'work' when my mother was using it for like 2-4 months back in late 90's (think it was '97 or '98), she was delighted with it but after going back to her 'usual' weight she never used it again and had no need to.
So the main question I've been asked to look into is whether or not Herbalife can be used if someone has epilepsy.
Secondly, can anyone tell me whether or not Herbalife still 'works', because other than witnessing my mother using it well over a decade ago (I might be wrong but I think she lost like 7kg during the first month, and then 5kg during the second month, dunno about later on), I had no further experience with it.
Many thanks in advance

Well, I have epilepsy.....or had it for about 13 yrs. I don't take meds anymore....some have said I must have 'grown out of it" but I still have a manic amt of seziures when i'm pregnant for some reason.

Anywho...a few things you said have thrown up a red flag in my mind. First, why do you think your friend would lie to you? What would be her motivation for saying she's taking a new med. If you don't see any side effects, than thats great! that must mean she found a med that both helps her seizures and keeps side effects at bay. I know the only side effect I ever had from meds was a really sensitive feelings, almost tingly in my fingers... its not something that anyone else would notice, so maybe she is having S.E.'s and you just can't tell???

Another thing I'd like to add is while I dont' think Herbalife would hurt her you must ALWAYS ALWAYS check with a doctor first!!!

Lastly...Herbalife does not have any long lasting effects. You might drop a few lbs at first, but most likely its from decreasing your cals. If the weight gain is truely from meds, i'm not sure theres anything you can do about that other than change the meds.

As far as weight loss goes, here at WLF we like to promote safe and healthy weight loss by focusing on a lifestyle change...eating better, moving more...no pills or crash diets.

When talking about the weight she gained at times I had the impression she was in denial about eating too much hence the possible 'new meds' story as some damage control maybe (though I have no clue how much she eats). I might have read into it too much, maybe she's just uneasy about her situation.

The tingly feeling did happen once. We were at my place, it was meds time for her but she forgot them home. She seemed sick, constant deep breaths and asked me to 'massage' her hands because of the tingly feel and cause she said her hands are going numb. EDIT: Finally she asked me to run to the pharmacy and buy her some regular sleeping pills as no prescription is required. Can't remember how many sleeping pills she took, but everything went back to normal after some 10mins.
Note: I don't know what S.E. is.

As for checking with the Dr. first, knowing her she wouldn't drink water before consulting.

Also, she's actively going to the gym but according to her nothing's changing.

Glad to know Herbalife has no lasting effects. The idea would be to use it for a few months and then not overdo on her food.

Thank you for your reply and advice.
