help

recently I have been given the go ahead to start exercising after a year of pretty much nothing. About a year ago I broke my hip, and that put me out of everything. I had never had a problem before with running. But now i am. i just need to know where to start and how to work up from that. i do have a docters appt. but not untill mid july and i would deifnatly like to get started before that. Also I have no access to a gym or personal trainer at the moment....so any pointers would be wonderful...thanks!

if you have been doing zero activity...you proably want to start out with non-weight bearing activity...bike, swiming, rowing, etc. as you develop the muscle strength, you could test/increase the strength the bone/joints with wts.

maybe aqua jogging?

whew...it is hard to say with out knowing you. assuing everything else is in good working order, i would start out conservatively (10-15min) for 3x in the first week. if you dont experience any problems bump that up to 20. in a few weeks you should find a point (~around 20-40mins) where it is good with out being too much.

the best results would probably come from a combination of doing some activity (swim, aqua-jog, etc) then stretch. the muscles have probably atrophied a great deal and when weak muscles get over used the get sore and stiff, so really push the stretch thing to help you get to a higher level.
