Hi, I am a 15 year old male, and I weigh 147 lbs. I am quite into fitness, although I think that I'm too thin. I currently run 10k 3 x per week, and cycle 20km once per week. I am happy with my leg and abdominal strength, but not with my chest and arm strength. I have been looking on youtube for some upper body exercises, and have found a workout that only uses dumbbells (I use 2 bits of metal pipe which is the closest I am to having any equipment lol). I have done this once so far and this is what it comprises of:
4 sec push ups (10 reps)
biceps curls (10 reps)
dynamic push ups (10 reps)
underhand front raises (10 reps)
15 - 30s rest afterwards and then repeat. (Carry on repeating for 10mins).
This was copied from sixpackshortcuts home chest and biceps workout.
The only problem I'm having is that my improvised dumbbells are only 3.3kg each, so it isn't very challenging. I've seen that Tesco sell dumbbells with detachable weights so you can keep adding more. Do you think It'd be a good idea to get some of these? If so, how much weight should I buy for each dumbbell?
And are there any other exercises that I can do to improve my long distance running? My 10k time is 55mins, but I am working on getting it down, and I'm aiming to do a marathon by my 20th birthday. Since I've increased the amount of running and cycling that I'm doing I've noticed a great increase in my leg muscle (I have put on about 7lbs recently, and this is the only muscle increase I've noticed, so I think I've gained a lot of leg muscle). I do a lot of sport at school, my favourite sports are running and rugby, although I do about 2hours per week of sports like softball and cricket.
I've put on a lot of weight since about 2 years ago when I lost about 2 stone and was told I had leukaemia. It turns out that it wasn't leukaemia, but I lost a lot of weight during that time, and am trying to get back to how I was (and better).
cheers
