Sport Help with P90X diet!

Sport Fitness
Hi!
My name is Emilio and I have just started my first round P90X (workout 4 coming up in a few hours). I am 19 years old and a pretty skinny guy, I have around 8-10 % bodyfat at the moment so my goal with P90X isn’t to loose weight, it more like pack on some muscles.

So my question to you is: How much results will I get without following the dietplan and do you have any tips for changing my own diet. The reason I can’t follow the diet is mainly because I can’t afford it... It is way to expensive due to the fact that I am a (poor) student on the Royal Institute of Technology which also makes it hard to find time to cook the meals needed in the nutrition plan P90X has provided every day.

Might be good to mention that I think my current diet is pretty good. I eat three big meals every day and fruits, sandwiches etc. in between. I never eat junkfood either (can’t afford it :/) I also have about 3 kilos of whey protein-powder stored up since before i was a student ;).

So please give me some tips on what to do!

Thanks in advance!

edit: I know for packing on muscle, going to the gym is more efficient than P90X but I can't afford a gym-membership.

I am just about to finish my P90X workout (did it as an experiment and enjoyed it), so hopefully will be able to help.

Firstly, I found the diet was not expensive, just restrictive. Don't buy all the expensive foods and keep the diet simple. It might get boring, but you are not doing this for a flavour adventure, you want to get fit, so don't care about the fact you are having the same meal 5 times a week.

Also, if you want to gain muscle this may not be the work out for you. I am very lean myself and did it to get fit. Fortunately I regularly went to the gym before P90X so had muscle prior to doing it, and can say that any gains are minimal. P90X is to get fit, lose weight, and get definition, not lose weight.

If you are a student you have the time to have 3 meals+ 2 snacks, so do that. Make the meals smaller and nutritious. You can shop around for cheapest brands etc if price is an issue.

Personally, I would only do the first part of the diet for 1-2 weeks as you are pretty lean as it is, if you do it for 4 weeks you are in danger of reducing your current muscle mass and even damaging yourself.
