Weight-Loss

Hi all, I'm new on here, just need some advice on food. Unfortunately I am a chocaholic but fortunately I enjoy going to the gym for exercise!

I am trying to lose a little bit of weight for my wedding in May - only half a stone but I've said this for ages and I never seem to lose any weight!

Like I say, I go to the gym 5/6 times per week so thats not a problem. I am rubbish with food though, a very picky eater and a rubbish cook so that is the problem.

For the past week I have been eating a bowl of porridge in a morning, a jacket potato with beans at lunchtime or tuna or ham sandwich or scrambled eggs and usually pasta or a proper dinner (ie. meat or sausages or something with potatoes, peas, carrots etc) in the evening. I also usually have a yoghurt or a digestive biccie (or 2) too. I also have a couple of apples during the day when I'm feeling peckish.

Trouble is, I always get hungry either after work or after dinner and don't know what to eat! Or what else to have for lunch at work!

I've only been eating like this without the excess fat & wanted to know if this intake is enough or will be effective? I feel fine, only wanting to pick a couple of times per day. I think a lot of it is habit or if I'm bored I look for food, something that I have to change!

Any advice about food and whether I'm eating enough would be appreciated before I do more damage than good.

Thanks in advance :)

Quantities are important for calorie counting, not all ingredients are equal either,

My favorite pasta is 100 calories per 100g, other pasta can easily top 250 calories per 100g.

bread can range from 50 cal per slice to 200

new potatoes are around 70 calories per 100g, baking potatoes around 110 cal per 100g

you get the idea, impossible to try an estimate your intake on the available information

Hello there,

You may already know this: when you eat pasta or rice, try not to exceed a portion that would fit your palm. Personally I've never counted calories in order to lose weight, but this palm-size-portion-rule has been working for me since I know exactly what is my ideal portion size:) By the way, it is great that you realize that you want to munch on something when you are bored. You could try drinking a glass of water or herbal tea instead. I am big on snacking when bored as well, but I find that drinking tea helps: tea is 0 calories, full of vitamins and antioxidants, plus it appeals to my taste. If I feel hungry 20 minutes after my tea, than I would snack on something healthy, such as raw nuts, or slice of toasted yeast-free rye bread with avocado, or plain yogurt. Hope it helps! Good luck!
