Sport HELP with eating at night!

Sport Fitness
ok, so heres the deal.
im a fulltime student in my 2nd last year at highschool, so its getting pretty hectic.
i train in kyokushin karate 3 times a week, one for boxing, as well as football one time a week.
i get home from school roughly 3.30-4.00 regularly and im not exactly starving but i will have something to eat (this isnt the problem)

i have a tournament in 2 months, and want to trim down a little. im on the go all the time, so i constantly have to eat, but im fine during the day, its at night where i find myself snacking if there is not food around and its contributing to my downfall.

now, training starts at 7.00 and ends at 8.30, so im home by 9. once i have some water and sit down to relax, im starved, but the problem is its 9.30pm!

just wondering if you guys have any ideas with low-cal/low-carb meals that would be alright that late.
once or twice a week ill usually have a protein shake for recovery, but it still doesnt hit the spot.

any suggestions would help! =]

Eat some protein as it helps with muscle recovery, a slice of good lean meat or some cottage cheese seems to be the preferred choice around here.

Yeah, a high protein snack will probably help curb you hunger. You could also think about bringing along some healthy snacks to eat throughout the evening so you aren't starving as soon as you get home.

Go to your grocery store and take a good look around. What do you feel like? Something sweet? salty? Maybe fruit bars, some popcorn, fruits, nuts,... Go check things out and when you go shopping make sure you have a stash of these things available in the house regularly.

Take the time and see what is out there....You'd be amazed what you can snack on that is healthy for you :)

Eating at night before bed has no effect whatsoever. If you come back home at 9:30 and you're hungry, then eat.

It sounds like you're not eating enough throughout the day. Spend some time to really focus on eating, and you'll see you don't have hunger strikes anymore. Don't just walk around and stuff food in your face. Listen to your body, find what you want, then go from there.

If you find that like 1 at night you're hungry, stop and listen. Most likely it's not a problem about hunger, but rather stress. Best solution is to go to bed. Usually when you're tired or stressed or thinking a lot, some people tend to eat and they eat a lot of food.

Buying health food is not ideal when you're having hunger strikes for "junk." Usually what happens is people shove a lot of "healthy" food down, then they're still thinking about the "junk" food and then they tend to binge into it.

Make sure you're eating enough through the day first. If you crave junk at night, it's usually an indication that you haven't eaten enough in the day. Try to be sure you're having at least 3 meals a day, and that in each of those meals, it covers a wide range of food groups.

Go for a nice grilled steak or chicken and salad, very low on carbs and calories and don't worry so much about what time you are eating. If your energy stores are depleted then the energy that you are going to consume is going to be used towards refueling your muscles and liver.

What Dallen said...

If you have a small breakfast you are already starving yourself right at the beginning of the day...so if you do not compensate for the lack of calories you had on your first meal, your hunger will build up and in the evening you will find that you get attacked suddenly by your hunger....train on top of that and your gonna want to devour everything.

Concentrate on proper intake (quantity and quality) and you will be fine.

Never, ever ignore your hunger.

Toodles.

here are to examples:

1 - You go out to dinner have a big meal, get home and fall asleep.

2 - You train from 7:30 pm to 8: 30 pm, you get home eat almost a balance meal, just a bit lower in the carbs. Then fall asleep.

Which do you think won't be as bad?
Yes (2), after working out you NEED food (calories) for your body to repair, and replenish what it lost. You body won't store calories as it would in example (1).

Obviously, it would be #2.
