Sport Help with diet

Sport Fitness
A few months back I started to lose weight by exercising, but after I injured myself (which meant I had to stop the exercise I was doing for a while), I noticed the weight coming back on so I went on a crash diet. So now I'm a few lbs short of my goal, and I'm just wondering, what's the best way to come off it so that I don't gain all the weight back? I was planning on increasing my daily caloric intake by 150-200 and daily exercise by 10-15 minutes every week until I'm where I should be. But I don't know if that's enough.

your weight doesn't stay off until your body is happy with it's new weight. what does this mean? you have to maintain whatever weight you have achieved (through healthy methods - not starvation) for a long period of time ... how long is that? well, that depends how long you were at your previous weight. if you have been at the same weight for 10 years, it may take a year ... if it's only been a few years, then you should be able to maintain that after only 4-5 months.

you can't just do exercise and then stop and expect the results to stick ... those are considered crash diets (even when it's done through exercise) ... your body hates those and just falls back to it's comfort zone. in the case of starvation, your body can actually yo-yo higher than before thinking that it's not going to be fed for awhile and hold extra weight.

I wasn't planning on stopping the exercise once I start, I just know that I won't be able to go from doing virtually none to what I want to be doing eventually. And I thought that if I started eating normally right away my body would try and keep it all. So I was wondering if I'd offset that by increasing the amount of food I eat gradually, as the amount of exercise I'm doing increases.

I know I can't just get rid of the weight and expect it to stay off if I go back to doing what I was.

hmmm ... good question. unless i am planning on bulking, i have always maintained the same food regimen, whether i'm working out 5/week or just a couple times ... the reasoning for me is along the same lines as what you are talking about, but the reverse. if i all of a sudden stop training due to injury, traveling, whatever ... my hunger isn't going to change, so i will continue to eat the same amount and it might get stored away ...

besides, you should not be increasing your food intake that much unless you are bulking (if at all), especially if you are looking to lose weight. you can only lose weight if you are burning more than consuming.
