Hi, i'm 14, 5' 8", i weigh 136lbs and have a slim build. i would like help to improve my diet, short distance running (mainly 400m, but also a bit of sprinting as well) and overall fitness.
i can't change my diet massively, as my mum isn't going to cook separate meals for me, but if i could get some tips to improve my whole family's diet that would be great. also, i'm not sure which breakfast cereals are the best? i currently have fruit 'n' fibre, but are there any healthier alternatives? i think i have a good diet, my dad is vegetarian, so we eat hardly any meat at all, although i'm trying to get my mum to cook rabbit and wood pigeon that i shoot. but i think i get enough protein form things like soya beans and quorn. we grow a lot of veges, so i eat a lot of things like potatoes, which we have loads of ATM, and lettuce, peas, dwarf beans, rhubarb, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, courgettes (which we also have tons of), peppers, chilli peppers and i also try to eat a lot of fruit. i think we eat white pasta and rice, so would it be a good idea to change to whole grain?
anyway, for breakfast i have: a bowl of cereal and 2 slices of wholegrain toast with nutella on and a drink of water. i also have omega 3 + 6 tablets.
then for lunch i have: 3 slices of wholemeal bread/2 white bread cakes, with either jam, nutella or cheese, tomato, cucumber and coleslaw.
then when i get back from school i have some fruit.
for tea i have whatever my mum cooks, which usually consists of quorn, veges etc.
and for pudding something like rhubarb crumble.
and i usually have some more fruit after tea.
so, can you think of any improvements?
i am very into running, i used to mainly do long distance, but it really hurts my chest as i have a dip in it, and although the doctor suggested pain relief, it doesn't work. so now i'm concentrating mainly on 400m (which doesn't hurt) and a bit of sprinting. i don't have any equipment at all ATM, but i intend to get some (but i can't spend loads). i would like to improve my fitness and get better at running 400m, but i haven't really got a clue as to what equipment to start with. i think dumbbells would be good, but which ones should i get, and how should i use them? and what other equipment would be useful to strengthen my whole body especially my legs, as i'll be running on them lol. also, i've been told that i need to strengthen my joints e.g my knees, but how would i go about that? i don't have access to a gym, so i'd have to do all of this at home.
finally, what sort of workout regime should i be doing? for years i've been running a lot, and on and off i've been doing sit ups, press ups and upper and lower ab exercises, so i'm quite fit physically but i'm wanting to get better.
cheers
